There's a good variety of missions to fly in HAWX, some can be a little frustrating, especially when they make you protect another plane, but they're not so overly difficult that you'll get hopelessly stuck. At most you may have to repeat a couple missions a few times to get it right, but overall the missions were fairly easy at normal skill level. You can also adjust the skill level before each mission. On normal difficulty you can carry an unrealistic amount of ordinance, but it comes in very handy. You do have AI wingmen, but they'll only take out a few targets here and there. Expect to do the lion share of the work.
The graphics are well done. When you get low it doesn't look nearly as good however, but it's still acceptable. There's a couple missions where you're flying in the rain and it looks great.
The storyline is sufficient and your missions keep the plot moving along
There's 19 missions in all which won't take you too long to finish the game.
If you're looking for a sim, this game probably isn't for you (there's not even any take offs and landings in this game), but if you're looking for a fun, arcade flying experience I'd recommend checking it out.
There hasn't been a similar game released for some time now: simplified arcade-like action with easy controls, breath-taking cinematics and impressive graphics - that will run in full even in mid-range PC systems. My advice: as with any flight combat game, using a joystick will make things so much more enjoyable and intuitive.
If you are more of an authenticity buff (and still have tons of free time to spare) I would advise going with a combat AddOn for Flight Simulator or a good old Jane's title. You will find no realistic cockpit and detailed controls in H.A.W.X. So, is this flight combat game dummied down? Well, yes. But I promise you: you will have FUN like never before!
Hammerheading over cityscapes and coming in from the Sun over the desert has never been more easy to master. The electronic aids and bare-minimum controls will let you enjoy the fights and start mastering them early on.
This is a 4star game but I decided to give it full marks just because the Montrealers at UBISOFT keep walking the narrow path towards a DRM-free future. It cannot be easy to take such bold decisions during such a tight economy. They deserve our support.
Yet, I would suggest you wait before buying this game. The major problems are on the multiplayer aspect of the game. It crashes, disconnects, times out often and it is not protected by any anti-cheat software. I suggest you follow up the game's forums before buying it. That way, you will be able to tell if they patched the game or not.
If you are a fan of simulation, you better stay away from it.
