This is an excellent book, if you are looking for something Ubuntu specific, although the info contained here is applicable to most Linux systems.
This book is more about using the command line than using the GUI, so you may wish to check out his other books as well. Yes he does have one dealing with the Ubuntu GUI. Much of the info in this booklet is repeated in the Linux Command Line Beginners Guide, so you may not need to purchase both books as I did. If you are new to Linux, I recommend Jonathan Moeller, he writes in an easy to understand style, even though the topic is not easily understood for newbies.
