Product Description

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away.

Scarlett Edwards "Uncovering You #1" is a novella that captured my attention from the moment I read the description. I was uncertain as to what to expect, was it going to be a "smutty little sex story" or would it actually have a plot, character building and hold my interest beyond pure fluff value...? I was amusingly surprised. It read like a psychological thriller, while the author introduced us to Lilly Ryder who finds herself in an inescapable predicament. The novella criss-crosses from present day, to her past, and back again to allow the reader to begin to understand why she is so strong, independent and driven. The secrecy surrounding her captor, "J.S." kept me turning pages, wanting to learn more about his perverse motives. Alas the novella ends as quickly as it begins and now I have to wait until the next installment is released...This is smart marketing, however, I would have preferred to have taken in a longer novel. I will eagerly await to read the next chapter in the story. While I await, I rate this 4/5 stars and recommend this upcoming author as someone who is going to gain success with her writings!

HASH(0x9fa146b4) out of 5 stars Extremely Captivating Story with an Even More Enticing Ending March 28 2014
By preppea - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Technically, Scarlett Edwards did warn me:

“The full story of Lily (captive) and J.S. (captor) unfolds over multiple volumes of approximately 125 pages each, like serials. Each volume, though, is a FULL story with a climax and conclusion.”

I knew you couldn’t fit the entire story in 125 pages. I knew it was serial-like. It’s not as if I thought Lily would be free by the end. But I didn’t realize just how little I’d get in the first edition. I mean, I wanted to experience J.S. at least. Ms. Edwards did say there’d be a FULL story with a climax and conclusion, after all. And okay, technically, I got it. It did have that. Just not at all in the way I was expecting. What I did get, though, was an extremely captivating story with an even more enticing ending that has me salivating for UNCOVERING YOU 2: SUBMISSION.

Lily wakes up with a collar around her neck—no idea where she is or how she got there. She is unable to leave and forced to choose between her life and her freedom. Lily is not new to difficult decisions. She’s never had an easy life and she’s worked hard for everything she’s ever received. So she’s not about to just roll over and take this lying down. But J.S. is not a man to be refused and he seems to have no limitations on how far he’s willing to go to get his way.

Told in a series of present time and flashbacks, Lily’s story is equal parts horrifying and mesmerizing. I was completely repulsed by the lengths J.S. went to in order to force Lily into submission, but when Lily finally realizes who J.S. really is, I was equally entranced by the person he was when she met him. I have no idea what I’ll think of him in SUBMISSION but I can guarantee I’ll be waiting excitedly to find out.

Bravo, Scarlett Edwards. You accomplished your goal. I’m mad you’re making me wait but I will wait. I just hope at the end of this series I will understand why you tortured me with tiny morsels instead of a few longer and more substantial books.

HASH(0x9fa14708) out of 5 stars I'll submit and sign my life away March 27 2014

I had a down period at work one day and decided to start reading Uncovering You: The Contract. I had no high hopes and didn’t even know how long the book was; I just figured I would start reading it. Well, I started it at 12pm, and 3 hours later I was done reading this amazeball book. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out.

Okay, so now that you know that, here are my 8 thoughts on Uncovering You:

I didn’t know it was a series. I thought it was a one and done book. Well, it wasn’t, and truth be told, that didn’t bother me at all. Because unlike some other book series, this book ended right where it needed to end, which is so very important to me. I will hate a book just because I thought the ending sucked. Uncovering You: The Contract brought me only so far in the story, and then it ended. It wasn’t in the middle of a conversation or in the middle of a scene. It didn’t leave me wondering what the hell happened. It had a beginning, middle, and end, and just as the author promised, “each volume is fully-contained story with a climax and a conclusion.” So kudos to Scarlett Edwards for knowing how to properly conclude a book in a series without me feeling frustrated with her.
Lilly Reed: Thanks to those flashbacks, I learned a little bit about her past and how she ended up trapped in that room, but I wanted to know more like what really happened with Paul and what’s up with her mother? How would I describe her: strong-willed, inquisitive, and determined. What am I looking forward to in the next book: Seeing if anything else in her past influenced her present predicament and the future power struggle between her and J.S. I just know that she will fight him every step of the way. It’s in her nature. It is who she is.
Speaking of J.S and being trapped (or should I say collared and tied to a marble white pillar)…… The excitement of reading this book was finding out the identity of J.S.? Who was this mysterious person that signed his name J.S. on that vile contract and why did he kidnap her? The main focus of this book was about her discovering who J.S. was, and then it happened, that aha moment. Scarlett Edwards built you up for 20 chapters, and then led you to the promise land. Loved it!
J.S.: Why? Why? Why? That’s all I need to know. I can’t wait to see why he kidnapped her, and if he played a part in her moving to California for an internship. I want to learn more about him.
The Contract: “Always, I expect my property to perform to the highest standards…..Do not disappoint me.” Holy smokes batman! Sex payments for paying off my loans. Hmm……
Paul: Does he have anything to do with this? I felt like he was an important person in her life. I didn’t believe he just left like her mom said. I just know that after reading this book he will pop up later in the series, and I cannot wait.
Anywho, I loved the writing. Loved the flashbacks. Loved the pace of the story. I can’t wait until April 20th for Uncovering You #2 to come out.
I gave this book 5 bookworm stars.

HASH(0x9fa14b40) out of 5 stars Very Suspenseful March 30 2014

“For real ?!?!?!?”
“It can’t be over yet!!!”
This was the conversation I had with my kindle which was followed by a long list of profanities after I got to the last page of Uncovering You by Scarlett Edwards. Why? Well because right when you are sucked in, holding your breath for what might happen, you basically get a “To be continued” shock to your brain cells; BUT holy OMG it was awesome. What a kick to the gut in a good kind of way.
So Uncovering You is written in volumes with this being the release of Volume numero uno, each volume is set to be about the length of a short story and has a climax and an “ending”, though as a reader you know the “ending” is not really the ending.
I thought the style of writing in this book was exceptionally unique and refreshing, you are vaguely introduced to the characters and there is not a lot of fluff in this book. There aren’t any long diatribes about inconsequential details rather this book is in your face right from the beginning. The main female character Lily wakes up in an unfamiliar setting basically held prisoner by an unseen and unknown captor. The story is more of her memory unraveling to decipher and discover how she ended up where she is and who could be holding her captive. While reading this this book I immediately became engulfed in the story as if I were Lily and I was trying to find clues, bits and pieces of memory that would save my life. It was fantastic and all too son it was over. By the end of this volume you learn a lot about Lily without revealing too much of who she is, yes confusing I know but I am not sure how else to describe it. Edwards has a way of conveying her character’s personality more through their actions or anecdotes then a drawn out description, following that old saying, actions speak louder than words. You learn that Lily is more than meets the eye, that she is stubborn, resolute, strong and smart. Her captor who we know very little of quickly shows that he is composed and calculating but has weaknesses, has vulnerabilities that you can’t wait to see unfold in the next volume. I loved this story, the writing was clean, it flowed naturally between the changes in time, and you can tell every word held purpose. I CAN’T wait to read the next volume and see where this story will go!

HASH(0x9fa14f00) out of 5 stars ****4 ½- You've got my attention -Stars**** April 21 2014

****4 ½- You've got my attention -Stars****
~this review may contain minor spoilers~

I refuse to give in to despair, even if my entire self-preservation mechanism is on high alert. Despair is what whoever brought me here wants me to feel.
I will not succumb to that.

Well well well, you've certainly got my attention Miss Scarlett. I am a big fan of gritty, dark, and emotional reads and this book definitely falls into that category. I'm not sure how I feel about it being a serial read though, this concept is new to me personally even if I have heard of such a monster. On the one hand- I like a long read and this was a bit on the shorter side, I sooo wanted more after that ending. On the other hand- it appears I won't have to wait too long for the next book which rocks cause I sooo wanted more after that ending.

Nothing feels right. The fog that's heavy on my mind is starting to lift, but not yet enough for me to understand-or remember-where the hell I am. This place is unfamiliar. I know that much. But right now, I feel almost like a surgery patient whose anesthetic kinked out: fully awake mentally, but completely impaired physically.

Lilly Ryder has just woken up in the middle of a living nightmare. She is in an unfamiliar room with no windows, no doors, no signs of human life, no idea how or when she got there, oh... and she is sporting a brand new collar around her neck. To say she is in a little bit of a panic would be an understatement.

A hysterical sort of laughter builds in my chest. It's the laughter that comes when all the lights have gone out and all hope has been extinguished. It's the laughter of a woman on the edge of sanity.

The only clue she has as to her situation is a contract. A simple piece of paper telling her the only way out of her current predicament is to sign over ownership of herself to someone known only as JS. As a woman who has fought her entire life to be independent and self-sufficient, her situation could not be any worse. Now she has to make the biggest decision of her life- sign the contract...or die. What will she choose?

What demands will my captor have of me? It does not matter. I will never sign that filthy sheet of paper. I will never willingly surrender my freedom.

We spend a lot of time jumping from past to present while Lilly struggles to figure out how exactly she ended up in this room and fighting against her captor the only way she can-through defiance. How long will she be able to hold out before she either withers away to nothing or succumbs to the insanity she feels creeping in on her? What happens if she signs the contract? What happens if she doesn't?? All I know is, after that ending-I am dying to find out what happens next. I have a feeling Lilly's captor has no idea what kind of woman they have on their hands, but is about to find out. Scarlett Edwards, you devious little devil, you have my undivided attention...when can I have it back?

I am at my very limit. I am a woman on the edge of a precipice. I know that I have only two choices right now:
Die, or sign the contract.

I adore character series. To me there is no better read than a series revolving around a character. I've never had a character/storyline pull me in so quickly as Lilly. There is a part of me that wanted to put it down and walk away. How could I keep reading about this poor girl. But then I realized I could not stop!
