Product Description

Nothing brings the family together like a zombie apocalypse …

Fifteen-year-old Jeremy Barnes would rather watch a zombie movie than shoot a real one, but he has no choice if his family wants to survive the end of the world. Their plan? Drive across the infected United States to a cabin in the Colorado Rockies without a scratch, but their trip takes a complicated detour in the middle of Nebraska when they find Kaylynn, a girl who can handle a baseball bat better than Jeremy can hold a .45 Beretta. And when they stumble into a sanctuary, Jeremy soon learns that Kaylynn is stronger than she looks—a deadly secret lies inside her.

After the radio picks up a distress call from Kansas City about a possible cure, Jeremy’s parents go with a team to investigate. They never return. The only way to find their parents is for Jeremy and his sister Jewel to rely on a dangerous girl who might just turn on them at any moment.

I am not an avid reader, or, I should say, that I do love to read but I don't read very fast and struggle with comprehension which results in making my reading even slower. So I'm very picky about what I do read and often get bored quickly with many novels and never end up finishing them. First, the cover of the book grabbed my attention right away. Creepy and intriguing. Right away I found I could identify with Jeremy, the main character and narrator of the story, as I think my young adolescent years very much coincided with how he explained things about himself. Having lived near Naperville, IL for nearly 23 years it was sort of cool to read how the family is from there and making their way west through a lot of familiar terrain. The story is witty and fun and a story that has not bored me for a second and when I'm not reading the book I can't wait for my next chance to pick it up and continue the story. It's refreshing to have talent that can write and tell a story without having to be profane or crud, or vulgar. Thank you Mr. King for such a fun story so far. Can't wait for Part 2

HASH(0x9dfe9fd8) out of 5 stars hilarious and fast-paced Jan. 2 2016

I am lucky enough to be in David's critique group and read this book while he was still drafting. I loved the book then, but I thoroughly enjoy it now! I had so much fun revisiting this story in it's polished, final state. I had wondered if the story would live up to my memory of it, and it definitely did.

Jeremy's voice is hilariously engaging, and this book entertains from the first word to the very last. The breakneck pacing had me flipping pages as fast as I could. King manages to make each character uniquely distinct, and to make a zombie apocalypse both laughably funny and chillingly realistic. I was rooting for the whole crew from the very beginning, and King even managed to make me fall in love with the pet dog.

This is a book for zombie lovers and haters alike. I'm not a fan of zombies, but I'm definitely a fan of the way King does zombies in The Undead Road. You can't go wrong with this book and I'm so excited for the rest of the series!

HASH(0x9dfede10) out of 5 stars Love humor, action and great writing. *Must Read* Jan. 3 2016

I'm a huge fan of Zombies -- and of King's writing.
This is the second book of his that I've read, and I loved THE UNDEAD ROAD for its ease of reading, and how the humor and the action kept me entertained... and always wanting to know what happens next.
Already looking forward to book #2 (are we there yet), and I can't wait to see what King comes up with next.
Five Stars - and absolutely well deserved!

HASH(0x9dff009c) out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down! Jan. 2 2016

I love a good zombie story and this one is FANTASTIC! Jeremy is a fun and likeable character living in an un-fun and unlikeable world. His devotion to his family is admirable, and his quick thinking saves the day quite often. Just as often, he finds himself in difficult predicaments -- you would too if you lived in a world completely infected with Vectors (zombies).

When Jeremy meets Kaylynn, he knows she's different. But it's about more than her intoxicating eyes. She's been infected, but she can control it. She's not one of the thousands of Undead walking around looking for their next snack. And both Jeremy and Kaylynn want to know why.

When Jeremy and his little sister, Jewel, get separated from their parents, they're hoping to stay safe in David City. No such luck. A Vector horde converges, forcing the kids to take the family Explorer and follow the map left by Jeremy's dad. Jeremy's parents went to get the cure that had been radioed in, and Jeremy wants it for Kaylynn. At the very least they'll get some answers.

There are tons of problems between David City and Kansas City, however, and none of them are the kind you write home about. The pacing of the novel is swift, causing readers to flip pages as fast as they can devour them. I couldn't wait to see what Kaylynn could do, and why. I wanted Jeremy and Jewel to be reunited with their parents. And most of all, I can't wait to read the next installment in the Zombie Summer series! This is a great first book of a great new series.

HASH(0x9dff0084) out of 5 stars YA zombie apocalypse with a twist! Feb. 11 2016
By Christine Rains - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Jeremy Barnes and his family are driving across country to their cabin in Colorado, a place they believe will be safe now that the zombie apocalypse has happened. Along the way, they meet a teenage girl named Kaylynn who can expertly wield a baseball bat and wins over Jeremy's heart quick. Kaylynn has a secret, though. One that might be the death of them all.

A fun and fast-paced YA zombie apocalypse read. Jeremy's fifteen year old voice is captured exceptionally well. He's a smart kid who gets way too distracted by a cute girl. And who can blame him? Kaylynn kicks butt. She tries to keep herself isolated so no one learns her secret, but Jeremy eventually figures it out. He sticks by her still. Hot girl, after all, and yeah, he's loyal with a good heart. Jeremy's family was awesome too. His mom's a nurse and his dad's a gun dealer and his little sister kicks butt too. The family unit is tightly knit and drawn genuinely throughout the story.

It reminded me of The Walking Dead at the beginning, but the zombies, or Vectors as they call them, are something very different here. An interesting twist to the typical zombie story. A solid 4.5 rating, and one highly recommended to zombie fans.

HASH(0x9e07b714) out of 5 stars even if you don't like zombies! It is a well blended action/comedy Jan. 2 2016

This a must read for any fantasy or zombie lovers, even if you don't like zombies! It is a well blended action/comedy. It's a fast paced thriller with twists that make you never want to put the book down. King creates a believable world full of interesting characters that develop right before your eyes. So many characters that are easy to love. There isn't just one person you want to follow on this journey. King describes the zombies with splendid taste and are believable in their creation. The humor perfectly balances the action that goes on during the book. I especially loved all the pop culture references! King's masterfully crafted plot is well balanced and moves forward effortlessly towards the climax which will leave you on the edge of your seat biting your nails. Plus, it leaves the reader with just enough to desire more. I can't wait for the sequel!!! It's a great easy read for all.
