"I have always belonged to you. I will always belong to you. Regardless of what you've done, what you do, or what you will do, I will forever be yours. And that's my choice to make, whether you choose me or not."

By the age of thirteen, Dalton Greer had already experienced abuse unfathomable to most. So by the time he was finally rescued from the latest of his long string of foster homes, he was already traveling down a very dangerous path. Indebted to a known drug lord as a means of protection, he chose the life of the streets thinking that's all his life had to offer...until he met her.

Five years later, she's the only bright spot in his very bleak existence. There isn't anything he won't do to shield her from the evil he's experienced and he wants nothing more than to protect her from the life he's chosen, as well as from himself.

The day Spencer Locke found Dalton sitting on her porch, she felt his pain and understood his rage. They were bonded by both, though he would never know understand why. He had been lost while she was found, and in that moment, she vowed to help him find his way too.

As the years pass by, that initial bond forms into something deeper. Spencer loves Dalton regardless of his past, in spite of his choices. And when all secrets are unleashed between the two, that love becomes binding.

One night is all they have before fate makes its own decision. Dalton is forced to choose the path he will travel, and Spencer is left unknowing as to why.
A journey about the discovery of true friendship as it blossoms into first love, the experience of crucial sacrifice and ultimate betrayal, and endurance of agonizing heartbreak on the way to finding lasting redemption, two lost souls find solace...

WOW WOW WOW.....I know what a way to start a review....but really you get that kind of feeling instantaneously after reading page 1!!!! I just finished this incredible story today and let me tell you I started it with a WOW and ended it with a big "OH WOW"!!!! I was "under the influence" from all the AMAZING characters in this book primarily Dalton Greer and Spence Locke....ahh I even love their names!!!!

We meet these two beautiful friends who both have damaged and troubled pasts but together have formed an "unbreakable" bond. Dalton has had a tough life full of tough choices and consequences that ultimately makes us fall in love with him from the beginning. Spencer Locke is a cute, fun loving 18 year old who we all want as a best friend but she becomes Dalton's best friend and the love of his life. She believes in him, wants the best for him and knows he could make a good life for himself. Dalton would do "anything" for Spencer and would always protect her and love her forever. Together, they are a match made in beautiful "sunsets" and their love is pure, beautiful and true until it is tested beyond uncontrollable circumstances. I find it hard because I want to say so much more but I don't want to spoil this beautiful story for anyone. This amazing story that will have you laughing and smiling one minute and crying and trying to catch your breath the next minute. It is full of so many emotions that it is definitely a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs. It was filled with so much happiness, affection, amazement, suspense, love and so much sadness at times that it tugged at my heart. My heart ached for both these characters at different moments yet filled me with so much love and happiness at other moments.

HASH(0xa183fbe8) out of 5 stars I was definitely Under the Influence of this book! May 11 2015

Wow, what an amazing rollercoaster ride of emotions we get in this book! I felt the "feels" right from the prologue! Once again L.B. gives us a book that wrings everything out of us and slowly puts us back together.

Spencer Locke first meets Dalton Greer when he shows up on her doorstep as a Foster kid. They develop an instant friendship and Dalton becomes the protective big brother. He's had a very hard life and had to grow up way too fast. In order to survive he's traveled down a path that is nearly impossible to get off.

Right from the beginning I fell in love with Spencer. She's a very level headed girl who looks at life in a very realistic way, not your typical teenager. She's grown up being exposed to foster kids and charity work, her mother working as a guidance counselor and in various shelters.

I am such a sucker for stories about friends who fall in love, and L.B. does an excellent job of laying the groundwork for Spencer and Dalton's growing relationship. Dalton will do anything to protect Spencer, even if it means protecting her from himself. " Spencer Locke is the one slice of happy I have in this s*** pie I call life." The decisions that Dalton has to make in order to protect Spencer nearly gutted me but L.B. masterfully lays out why his actions are necessary.

I fell in love with the secondary characters in this book. Cassie is Spencer's best friend and her brain and mouth have no filter which makes for some very funny scenarios. I loved their connection and how close they are, "Love you, times two." Rat is Dalton's best friend and he is the hilarious comic relief that lightens up some tense situations. Spencer's mom, Deborah is a great anchor for her, providing her with wisdom and guidance but still giving her the space she needs to live her life and make her own decisions. I wish I had a mom like her! Kirk Lawson is also a very integral character who ends up playing a very significant role in both Spencer and Dalton's lives.

L.B. has divided this book into three parts and finishing part one, I knew part two was going to wreck me! But saying that, I absolutely loved how she presents this part of the book. I'm not going to tell you what she does, you have to read it for yourselves! Just be prepared with a box of tissues, wine and chocolate or whatever your comfort items are!

Part three leads us into the reunion of Spencer and Dalton. Finally my heart is starting to be put back together!! But here is where the suspense starts to build and instead of my heart clenching it was my stomach clenching, furiously turning pages to find out what happens next! The other side of Dalton's life that he tried to desperately to keep Spencer away from lands them smack dab in the middle of a situation that I was scared to death they wouldn't be able to recover from!

The ending of this book was pure perfection for me. What I truly loved throughout the book was Dalton's expressions of his feelings. He's very eloquent in describing how he feels about Spencer and he had me swooning all throughout the book. I might need to let my husband read this so he can learn a thing or two about how to express his feelings!! "I live and breathe because of her and I will continue to do so making sure that each day, she understands the depths of my love for her." OK tell me any girl who wouldn't swoon hearing their man say something like that!!

True perfection! I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves to read a book that makes them feel every kind of emotion there is. Bravo L.B.!

HASH(0xa183f9f0) out of 5 stars Love this book times 2!!!! May 11 2015

Where do I start?

I'm struggling to write this review. Not because it wasn't any good, I just don't know how to express my love for this story. I've reviewed most of LB Simmons' books and the words are usually formed in my head by the time I'm finished reading. That wasn't the case this time. I honestly don't know how to put my feelings into words. If you asked me if you should read it, I would say hell yes! For 2 reasons, 1, because it was a great story of hurt, betrayal, love and second chances. 2, because I love this author and I think everyone needs to read her writing. If you asked me if I would recommend this book to someone, I would say yes for the same two reasons. If you asked me what I love about this book, I would say everything, but that's a cop out. I love the way LB develops her characters into someone you can relate to, someone to love, and someone you miss when the story's over. I love that she builds you up, tears you down and rebuilds you. Her secondary characters are phenomenal, they almost steal the show. They are unforgettable. In this book I wish some of them had stayed around a little longer. Spencer is someone I aim to be like in my life. Happy, able to forgive freely, move on easily and love so much. Dalton, sigh, I don't know what to say other than, LOVE. Cassie, I need more people like her in my life, funny, caring and always there no matter what!

I guess I had more to say than I thought! So, please read this book, you won't be sorry. I promise!

HASH(0xa1842498) out of 5 stars 10 STARS!!!!!!!!! May 11 2015

Oh gosh, I don't know where to start! This book was amazing! I was purposely reading really slow just so that it didn't end! I was on edge from beginning to end! I really don't think I have any nails left!!
The unconditional love of Dalton & Spencer is something so special that it's hard to even imagine! Dalton is stuck in a life that he was thrown into. A life that feed him for years & because of this there's only one way out. Dalton & Spencer's love is electric! Until her birthday, when he did what he had to do to protect her! MY. Heart. Shattered.
This book is so freaken intense! Dalton makes the ultimate sacrifice for someone you love but is it enough? Can he protect Spencer from the devil? Words can not describe how raw & intense this unconventional love story is! It's a true testament of how we should love someone even though most of the book was NOT pretty or easy to watch unfold! It did leave me with hope that love will prevail & that the devil will not win! How much would YOU sacrifice for the one You love?

*An ARC was given by the author for an honest review*

This book had me on an emotional yo-yo. One moment I was giggling and the next my eyes were tearing up or I went all Hulk on the situation. Yep. Emotional roller-coaster ride that BROKE MY FEELS!

Spencer Locke and Dalton Greer have an incredible connection, they have been best-friends since they met. Their depth of feeling for each other transcends everything else. They, each, would do absolutely anything for the other. Spencer knows that behind the hard-shell that is Dalton Greer lies an incredibly intelligent and compassionate and loving person. She knows that he refuses to show it but she hasn’t given up on him. She will ALWAYS believe in him. The secrets that’s keeping Dalton from being the person Spencer thinks he’s meant to be is all that’s keeping these two kids from having the perfect life.

Oh god, Dalton is amazing. The moment I met him my heart cracked. How did he survive such atrocities? How is it that we humans are capable of such heinous crimes? If I ever meet these so called humans. I am going to... ... HULK SMASH on you!!!!

Protecting Spencer is all that drives Dalton, he would do anything for her, ANYTHING, even keep his emotions in a classified storage just to keep her safe. And Spencer, well she lights up his dark world. Her light and her incredible insight, thoughtfulness, compassion and strength blew me away. She is a brand of magic that all children like Dalton and Penelope needs. Aaaah Penelope, oh my god, that little girl has burrowed into my soul the moment she entered the picture. I wept and I went completely postal. My ears and eyes could NOT believe the specrapular incident that occurs in her home. My feels get bashed from here to kingdom come. The stuff Penelope says OH MY GOD!!! Her words made me a gooey, sappy, emotional basket. Naming my 3rd kid Penelope, the first two would be Kaeleb and Aubrey and L.B. knows about it too.

Then there was Cassie, holy cyclone Sally, she's a force to be reckoned with and she's Spencer's other best-friend. She is sassy, funny, and definitely inappropriate at times. That girl has depths that weren’t fully explored but her love and support for Spencer name comes into question. Love her, times kazillion. Then there was Rat, Dalton's childhood friend who has been with him through thick and then and I cannot begin to tell you what transpires to leave me stuttering 'what the... I can't even... ... wha... ... FUDGE!' and mumbling and silently weep.

Two other souls that made me fall in love with them was Deborah and Lawson, these two are the guardians of helpless and fights against the soulless. THEY ARE MY HERO!!!! Deborah fights time and again to make a change in the kids she takes care of and Lawson does the same just in a different way. Then there was Liam, OMG, I freaking loved him and I wanted him to make babies with me. Whaaaat? Umm, yeah of course I did, the guy had an effing beard and long hair. I am totally beard and long hair girl. Anyhooooo, moving onto the plot.

You know those authors who totally grab you from the beginning and then hook you deep and then reel you in and then caste you far and wide into the depthless ocean of FEELS? Yes?? No??? I have been in touch with such an author, fortunately for her I freaking love her like mad. Just when I am going about my merry way thinking this story will not have any more feels to break. A 10 ton worth of craptacular feels pile dives onto me. I am left gasping and unable to breathe. OMG the letters had be blabbering into my pillow. And the letter which most of you know is part of the blurb broke ME.

Is Spencer really ready to leave Dalton for good? Will she finally shed her hopes and dreams and move on? Will Dalton be able to survive without his light? Or will we lose a sweet and beautiful soul to the darkness forever?

You wanna know more? Then I suggest you 1-click this baby and read to find out if my feels indeed survived this ride of sunsets, fairy lights, guns and drug lords.

HASH(0xa1839a20) out of 5 stars Cliche and One dimensional June 25 2015

Are you people being paid off to write these glorious 5 star reviews? Reviews exist so that poor, unsuspecting people like me don't waste hours of our lives waiting for a book to turn into the story of the year. I trusted you, fake reviewers! Word to the wise: if a book has 165 reviews, over 100 of which are expository essays complete with quotes and full summaries, don't buy that book. Thank goodness I borrowed this with Kindle Unlimited. I would have been quite angry if I purchased this book.

Anyway, this story was probably one of the most trite and cliched stories I have ever read, and I swear I am not being hyperbolic.

Bad boy with a hidden soft heart. He's bad because he had a terrible childhood and doesn't really want to be bad. In fact, he only does bad things because of some kingpin who raised him as a surrogate son makes him do bad things. Also, Bad Boy is in love wih his former foster sister but can never tell her because she's a perfect angel and he is practically the devil.

Perfect, gorgeous, down to earth, virgin Good Girl also had terrible early childhood but her experiences made her understanding, kind an patient. The only flaw that Good Girl has is that she loves Bad Boy and can't tell him.

Well, some super cliche things happen and BB and GG share their feelings after which GG gives BB her most special thing (virginity?) and then BB disappears. For five years.

Because he's being trained by GG's cop stepdad to be an undercover operative so BB can take out the kingpin who is keeping GG and BB apart. Everything works out in the end and everyone lives happily ever after.

I read this book and reviewed it so that you don't have to.

PS: the prose in this book is cringeworthy throughout.
