I would recommend reading the book thoroughly and then going out and trying what is being explained. Its all there and it can make you a much better photographer.
His tremendous knowledge of the subject leads to simple methods of controlling the camera settings in situations where your camera will want to underexpose the image or shift colours on you.
The book is well laid out and can have you shooting in manual mode in a few minutes. Then he builds on how each part of the three things that affect photographs the most work, what they do and how to use them to get the results you want.
There is good reason this book is in its third edition. If you own a camera with manual modes (even a fixed lens camera) you need to read this if you want to take better, more creative photos.
