3.0 out of 5 stars A long winded book - Boring Sept. 19 2013
By BWinkle - Published on Amazon.com

I struggled between 2 and three stars on this novel. It wasn't a 'bad' book overall, but it sooo long winded. I couldn't finish this book at all. I am a avid reader and make a habit of finishing EVERY book I read. This is the second one in my life time that I could NOT finish. As I stated it wasn't necessarily a bad book, but it was extremely boring as all get up.

The good things about this book:
It was well written, not many spelling errors and the grammar was good. I only actually saw a few grammar things that confused me. The characters were well built and this author knows how to give adequate details to her characters and to her surroundings. This I thoroughly enjoyed as descriptions are always the hardest, I believe, to get accurate or across to a reader. I think the characters match each other perfectly. I could feel their chemistry and the reason why they would be attracted. While I did enjoy reading on a topic that is not so readily hit upon in romance novels, gave this book a breath of fresh air. I applaud the author for that.

The bad things about this book that earned it 3 stars:
It is easy to sum it up in a few words. Boring, long winded and lack of romance between the characters.
Let me be the first to say that I am not a fan of Union, Mob, Gangster type books. However, while this book was based off a Union for a mining town I could have actually been ok with that, EXCEPT that it seems to me that the book was more about the Union and their fights than it was about the love, growing love or struggles of romance that are usually contained with in a romance novel. I only got 50% of the way though this book, because I could no longer stand reading on about the Union and their struggles. There was a bit about how the two characters in this book met, how the hero couldn't marry her because he was pretending to be someone else, but ended up marrying her any how. The heroine had expected to marry the man so there were no obvious struggles there after their correspondence for 2 years. I am assuming by the label that their might have been another struggle later on that I did not get to?????
But overall.... their was no romantic courting, no romance struggles, nothing. It was just story about a mining town and a dirty Union Group of leaders.
Another thing that I found hard to discern was how the characters that were "under cover" were changing names in a conversation. On sentence states Dietz said... the next sentence states McCullogh said, but in reality these to people are the same because Dietz is pretending to be McCullough. The same thing for Mr. Allison, who is is really Patterson.

Overall the book was extremely boring and long winded and for that I did not finish it. Half way through I still couldn't make heads or tales of who was really the good guy or the bad, except they portrayed the "Union" which was practically the whole town, was evil and on a murderous rampage not giving any credibility as to why they were against the owners. Yes it mentioned fair wages and better working conditions... is that all they could have said? They gave no examples or incidences.

If you don't mind a story about a corrupt union, then this book is for you. If you are looking for love and romance, please pick another book.

3.0 out of 5 stars October 2013 review Oct. 6 2013
By A. - Published on Amazon.com

I read this book because it was free at the time. I liked the premise and the introduction of the characters. The story progressed at a good pace. There was a happy ending. The sex scenes were not very graphic, so it wasn't uncomfortable to read on my daily commute. It was a nice read when I was looking to kill some extra time.

I was not particularly fond of the female protagonist's abrupt falling in love of the male protagonist and her complete submission to him. She was otherwise a very independent character, which I liked. I understand it was part of the plot, it's just not my preference so I was less inclined to give a five star rating for this book.

I subtracted one star because of editing issues. There were some really noticeable grammar and/or editing mistakes throughout the book, particularly towards the end.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Union Sept. 22 2013

Review:

"The Union" by Gina Robinson was a wonderful western historical romance novel. This was a rather fast paced read that was suspenseful with some real'historical events from North Idaho's Silver Valley during the late 1800's. This read was of the old west mining town and a romance 'between an undercover agent who was posing as a mail order husband.'

The read will lead you to some very intriguing and well developed characters as well as some shady ones that will keep your interest until the very end. I found this author to be a very good storyteller of this 'love story' that will also keep you turning the pages to see what was going to happen next in this novel as the secrets to it all comes to out. I enjoyed how this author was able to present the unions and all of the corruption that was involved in it all.

If you are looking for a good read with lots of twist and turns with some surprises you have come to the right place for "The Union" will take you there for a very amazing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good story with an interesting twist April 9 2014

I was hooked by this book from page one. That pretty much has to happen for me to even read any further. I loved the twist in it, but won't say more about that so that I don't spoil the story for someone else. I figured the couple would work out their problems and was pleased that they did. I loved the fact that there was no foul language in the book and the love scenes were more implied that a blow by blow description.
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! Sept. 19 2013

I had trouble getting thru the start of chapter one. Then, it was around midnight when I started this book and I was dog tired... I gave up and went to bed and started from the beginning the next morning. What a difference. I loved this book. I'm so glad I started it over after a good nights sleep and didn't give up on it. This is the first book by this author that I've read and won't be the last. This will go on my to read again list. I HIGHLY recommend it.
