"Debut romance author S.C. Ellington knocks it out of the park with this steamy contemporary romance." -Bare Naked Words

"S.C. Ellington's realistic romance will tug at your heart strings and leave you begging for more!" -We Love Kink Book Blog

After a horrific breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Brooklyn Caldwell is completely disenchanted with the notion of mingling with the opposite sex. Damon Williams had been everything she thought she wanted…until he wasn’t.

In an attempt to escape her heartbreaking past, Brooklyn seeks refuge in bustling Washington, D.C. where she folds into the fast-paced society unnoticed…until she meets a young entrepreneur, Logan Colton.

Brooklyn is surprised to find that while she has been successful in keeping the opposite sex at bay, somehow she is defenseless against Logan’s confidence and charm—and it doesn’t hurt that he is absurdly beautiful.

As much as Logan didn’t plan on pursuing her, he is drawn to Brooklyn’s muted beauty and her witty persona. For all his success, Logan is ensnared in the coveted world of unequivocal wealth and power, but behind closed doors is taunted by his own demons and an undeniable need to atone for a monumental mistake.

As the two embark on a tumultuous obstacle course saturated with unknown twists and turns, Brooklyn is left to question whether she can endure the journey ahead.

My rating: 3.5 of 5 ⭐️

When Brooklyn Caldwell moved to the DC area from the West Coast, she had done so in hopes of finding better job opportunities, working as a 'marketing assistant' for her a sleezeball boss had not been on the wish list. But it was paying the bills for now and she would keep her eyes open for other opportunities. Luckily she had her best friend Alex, and her boyfriend as her roommates, they help keep the cost down and Brooklyn from going crazy. Alex had also been the person who held Brooklyn up after a devastating breakup that had her completely turned off the idea of looking at another man again. That is, until she bumps into Logan.

A huge corporate and financial success at a young age, Logan Colton is what one would call, a self-made man. With a determination to make his own stamp on the world, he by-passed the family business and built something for himself from scratch. A large driving force for Logan is a childhood tragedy that continues to haunt him. The social standing, fame and riches that come with his success seem more of a burden than a reward, Logan is always questioning people's motivation. So when a certain dark-haired beauty shows herself determined to shut him down, his interest is peaked.

Brooklyn doesn't intend to play hard to get, she just doesn't trust easily, and she can't for the life of her understand why a gorgeous and wealthy man would have any interest in her. It takes. Logan a while, but eventually he is able to break through Brooklyn's shell and they begin a tentative exploration of each other. Logan soon finds out just about all there is to know about Brooklyn but he keeps things close to his chest when it comes to himself.

HASH(0xa58e1450) out of 5 stars It's Okay, But Predictable Aug. 6 2014
By Melissa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Brooklyn's heart was broken three years ago by her ex-boyfriend, Damon. She thought he was the one, so the breakup left her totally blindsided. She relocated to D.C. with her best friend in hopes of starting over. But instead she's stuck in a job she hates and doesn't really have any interest in dating. Until she meets, Logan. A hot, CEO and potential new client for the marketing firm where she's an assistant. He pursues her until he can finally convince her to go on a date. It may be a conflict with her job, but she just can't resist. When she finds out later Logan might be lying to her and Damon wants her back, it leaves her confused.

I hate to say this, but I found this book to be boring and unoriginal. It was the typical CEO falls for the innocent, broke girl. Some of the things that happened reminded me of other books that I've read. The way Brooklyn and Logan met in the lobby of the building, the trying too hard to be cute email banter, Logan suffering from nightmares and the surprise gala. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if there had been some passion and chemistry between Brooklyn and Logan. Or something unique about their connection, but it was weak at best. Brooklyn was immature and really whiny. I'm hoping the second book is better.

HASH(0xa5818a14) out of 5 stars Not Enough... Sept. 20 2014
By Danyelle - Published on Amazon.com

I am so annoyed right now! I kept reading, hoping it would get better and ended up with a cliffhanger! Ugh! I'm not even intrigued enough to inquire about the next installment. I gave the book 2 stars because I actually liked Logan. The story moved too slow, not enough passion. I felt like the h was kind of a cold fish.

After a very slow start I finally got into this book and really enjoyed the budding romance between Logan and Brooklyn. From two completely different worlds these two faced more obstacles than most couples do in the short time they are together in this book. I really didn't like the ex Damon. I can't imagine the pain Brooklyn had to suffer alone for so long.
Her heart was broken and she didn't even want to give anybody a chance to heal it.
Logan is a sweet endearing hero but has his skeletons and really loves to spoil Brooklyn.
I found that Brooklyn was very impulsive and rash a times and made some pretty in the moment choices that bothered me. I almost felt like she didn't deserve Logan. He saved the story for me and the ending almost made me feel like he deserves to find somebody that will give him a chance not judge him at every chance she gets. Brooklyn at times showed that he was helping her with her broken heart. When they were together at times she'd seem to really be happy with him. I felt like she was making progress and maybe the hurt was healing slowly.
But then she'd do something harsh and I'd want to slap her again.
I hope that Brooklyn redeems herself because in my opinion she's completely wrong. In the end I give this story 4 stars because I really loved Logan and want to see him find happiness. Not sure I want him with Brooklyn.

HASH(0xa58e85d0) out of 5 stars One you won't want to miss! Aug. 8 2014

Unsettled

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this new series, but at the same time I want to just smack the heck out of our heroine and tell her to grow up! She runs hot and cold, she is wishy washy and she can't just take our hero at face value. I really, really like our hero Logan. How he puts up with Brooklyn and all her baggage, when any sane man would just walk away just dazes and amazes me! Lol, ok, I'm done ranting....I will introduce our troubled duo to you!

Brooklyn Caldwell is a 24 year old woman who has chosen to shut off her romantic, softer side. She and her ex Damon were in what she thought was a completely committed relationship and she gave her love, her trust, her everything to their relationship. Then one night out of the clear blue, Damon calls Brooklyn on the phone to tell her that they are through. He needs to concentrate on "him" now. Brooklyn was devastated, she had just received some news which she was going to share with Damon; but now she didn't know if she should even mention it. Then during that same call Brooklyn found out that he slept with another woman; but he told her "it was no big deal, she didn't mean anything to him...." Does that excuse ever work...ummmm, nope, never!

Fast forward to the present and Brooklyn is now living in Washington D.C. and though she isn't exactly loving her job, it is giving her the ability to pay down her student loans and live a comfortable life. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that a handsome, sexy millionaire like Logan Colton would ever fall for her....but when they first meet both Brooklyn and Logan are intrigued with each other. Brooklyn has kept her heart and her emotions locked away for 3 years and she has an emotional wall surrounding her heart! But Logan is fascinated with the sexy woman that Brooklyn tries so desperately to hide and pursues her relentlessly! He knows that they could be good together, if she will just give him a chance!

Meet Logan Colton, he is a 27 year old millionaire who has worked hard to grow his company. He has deep scars too, but unlike Brooklyn; he is willing to put his emotions out there and see where this new relationship could go! He is loving the fact that Brooklyn isn't a gold digger. She is smart, sexy and she has a quirky sense of humor! Add to that glowing review, she is also a great cook! What more could he ask for?

Logan has worked harder to pursue and date Brooklyn than he ever had to before. Even though he has to travel a lot due to his companies obligations, he makes Brooklyn know that he always thinks of her, and that she is very important to him. When Brooklyn's ex comes back into the picture, he surrounds Brooklyn with his love, letting her know that she can count on him, he won't let her down! Too bad the same can't be said for Brooklyn!

As Brooklyn and Logan's relationship grows, Logan start to introduce Brooklyn to his family and his way of life. Brooklyn is uncomfortable with being able to hop on a private jet and go to another state at the drop of a hat, but she loves spending time with Logan. When Logan takes Brooklyn out to a charity event Brooklyn overhears something that causes her to run.....she doesn't give Logan a chance to explain, she doesn't explain why she is upset, or she doesn't even question if any of what she overhears is true....she just runs! *sigh*

Brooklyn and Logan's journey is one that will capture you from the very beginning and have you laughing and wanting to yank someone's hair out! That is exactly the kind of stories that we love! Some of the best love stories aren't the pretty ones, they are the messy, heart bleeding stories that keep us anxiously flipping pages till 2:30 in the morning....but anxiously waiting until we can download the next one! This is that kind of story! Bonus for me.....the second book in the series 'Surrounded' is out NOW! If you are looking for a great escape pick up this book now! You will thank me later! 👏
