HASH(0xa7dce924) out of 5 stars A fine transcription of Liszt's Faust Symphony June 1 2016
By crkkos - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album is Volume 34 of the Naxos series of Liszt's Piano music. This music is unique from the Leslie Howard Hyperion set, as that set contains works for one piano. The symphonic compositions Liszt was most known for include his Faust Symphony, the Dante Symphony and several symphonic poems. All of these works were transcribed for two pianos by Liszt as well. This album features the transcription for two pianos of the Faust Symphony, S. 108, and is given the catalog number S. 647.

The pianists for the transcription are Vittorio Bresciani and Francesco Nicolosi who have labeled themselves the Franz Liszt Piano Duo. The pair have also performed some of the symphonic poem transcriptions for two pianos in Volume 29 of the series. The Faust Symphony contains a chorus, and for this the Liszt Music of Chamber Choir appears in the last movement of the work. The transcription of this work is well performed well worth listening if you are fan of the Faust Symphony or piano transcriptions. The Naxos Liszt piano series is great because music like this is often neglected in favor of more mainstream classical music. Be sure and check out the transcription of the Dante Symphony and the Symphonic Poems as well. For transcriptions not related to Liszt works, but composed by Liszt, the transcriptions of the Beethoven Symphonies are fantastic as well and should be heard.
