This is written as two reviews!
Part 1:
Death is peaking its head around every corner that Molly turns, taunting her for the choices that she chosen. Victor does his best to bring Molly back to a neutral state to properly see what is in front of her. But instead of grieving properly and accepting help, she is rushing decisions and we as readers don't know where these choices are going to lead her.

Valley of Darkness...why do you have to be only part one? I want more now! It's isn't too often that I find the second book better than the first, but wow! Speaking the truth doesn't always come with a fresh breath of air that we think it does. This installment of `Fields of Elysium' brought me to tears. Tears for the pain that Molly is going through, tears for Victor as his helping hand is out of reach and tears for the goodbyes being endure by so many. I was taken back into Molly and Victors worlds from the first paragraph. It started up where first installment left off. I would recommend this book to my family and friends looking to read a book about journeys, love, heartache and suspense. I say suspense as `Valley of Darkness: Part 1' leaves readers with an unsuspecting cliff hanger. It is going to be hard waiting for the second part. A.B Whelan's world building and storytelling is remarkable.

HASH(0x9dc80660) out of 5 stars Five stars again May 7 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
So, already being hooked on this series like a drug, I was excited to read on. The beginning was nice. I wouldn't call it slow, because the continuation of the romance between Molly and Victor was so entertaining and amazing.

And although things seemed amazing in paradise, they quickly come crashing down. There is an art in building up your characters, making the story near perfect, only to send it crashing down and spiraling toward rock bottom. And A.B. Whelan, did not disappoint.

The love between Molly and Victor deepens, but even then, tensions grow. And when a HUGE plot twist occurs, their love is tested. Tremendous grief, anger and sorrow threatens to break them apart, and wear them down. And throughout the book, the reader is able to see the moment Molly and Victor's spirits are about to break, although they are at different times. Both of them have their share of the strife.

In this book, although we continue to learn more about the amazing world of Arkana, A.B. Whelan delves deep into the character's. Their stories, their personalities, their hardships. Each character contributes to the suspenseful plot.

Whereas the first book in the series was about a rising romance and adventure. Valley of Darkness is all about tragedy, and love; love that can grow and swell and prove that Love is far greater. Love between friends, soulmates, parents. All that plays a part.

THis book did a great job on successfully painting images of the scenery, stimulating the five senses, and communicating the sheer emotion of the book.

Five stars again. Congratulations on another fine book A.B. Whelan. Let's see if you can manage to score another perfect five on the third! ;)

HASH(0x9d7ef2b8) out of 5 stars Creative World, Great Characters, Loved it more than book 1 Nov. 2 2013
By KaylasPlaceReviews - Published on Amazon.com

Wow... okay. It's taken me forever to read this one but it's not because it wasn't good. It was actually GREAT! It's simply taken me so long because life gets in my way entirely too often. Grr. Darn life.

Ha. Anyways... back to the fabulous goodness that was Valley of Darkness part 1!

I can't tell you enough how amazing the world is that the author has created. I want to GO there! Just see it with my own eyes! The creativity is just... there are no words. Love it.

Now, here's the deal. I really liked the first book - just disliked the insta-love. Valley of Darkness - LOVED this one! I honestly knew I'd like it because I loved the world that was built in book 1 and I loved the characters. But this one blew me away. There was absolutely no way for me to predict some of the plot twists. I was speechless... I teared up a few times... I wanted to reach out and hug poor Molly on so many occasions. I mean... seriously did NOT expect what hit her life. Victor's character really found a place in my heart during this one. He was... so supportive and caring... Gosh, I just loved him.

If you haven't read book 1, you definitely can't just jump into this one. You NEED the background in book 1 before starting this one. Whelan's writing flowed seemingly effortless and things just... clicked for me. I loved the time difference in this Valley of Darkness. It was like it showed itself more and began to actually be a prominent concern. Loved it. Okay... Sorry guys. I keep saying that over and over again.

Overall, I loved this one even more than book 1. It seemed everything just fell into its place. Loved it! Can't wait for more!!!!!

HASH(0x9ded3870) out of 5 stars A sci-fi YA novel you will not be able to stop reading. July 17 2013
By Larry B. Gray - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The Valley of Darkness, Part 1 by A.B Whelan is the second book in the Fields of Elysium Series. (See my review of Fields of Elysium on January 21, 2013.) This is an exciting continuation of the story began in book one. As a sci-fi YA novel you will not be able to stop reading.

The author did an excellent job of tying the storylines and continuing to build on the relationship between our two heroes. With each new twist we see the story build and our heroes mature and grow. The story is easy to follow making it hard to put down once you start reading.

A.B. Whelan, as in the first book, does a great job of character development. By writing with feeling and emotion you quickly become attached to the characters and the story.

One recommendation to all readers is to read the first book in the series first. It lays the much needed groundwork for this story.

I really enjoyed reading The Valley of Darkness, Part 1 by A.B. Whelan. I highly recommend this book and series to all readers.

[Please note: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.]

HASH(0x9ded3828) out of 5 stars As good as the 1st May 30 2013

I recorded an ARC for an Honest review.

This is a series where the sequel is just as good as the first or even better. I fell in love with the first book where we learned of the parallel planet which move 5 times as fast as our and is truly peaceful.we learned of the hatred turn to love.

This book expands on that book in many ways, however it has a quality that makes it stand alone. We learn more about Molly and her trials through everything dark that this planet is know for. We see how her love for Victor also grows.

Let's not forget all the twist and turn and gut wrenching emotion you feel as you read. The cliff hanger at the end is tremulously overwhelming. I have to have the next book soon
