Allowed me to revive my old eSATA enclosures !

Many years ago I have purchased hard disk enclosures from Vantec. They supported eSATA and USB2. Since then I have upgraded my computer, and there is no longer eSATA connectors on the backplate, and all my internal SATA connectors are used.. I was going to throw away those enclosures and buy USB3 enclosures instead, in addition to the ones I already have, until I discovered this amazing product. I purchased 2 of these and they worked perfectly with my eSATA enclosures. I plug one end into the eSATA port and the other to the USB3 port and the drive was recognized right away. Please be aware that this is not power eSATA - your eSATA drive needs to be powered. Since I used this with an external enclosure that included its own power supply, it wasn't an issue. This is meant for a 1 way connection - it converts your eSATA into USB3. It even gets detected as a USB device so I can safely eject the device without an issue. What is niec is that the adapter cable includes a green activity light. I am also very happy to report that it fully supports S.M.A.R.T. Passthrough.

Now about the negative - and this is why I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5. The cable length is way too short, it's crazy and absurd - there is no way you can use this thing without a USB extension cable. For the USB part I use an Atolla 7 port USB3 hub, and it worked without issue. That's the only negative.

I bought this to replace the controller in my enclosure that died, I was able to hack saw off the back end of my old plastic drive enclosure, plug this onto the drive & use Gorilla Tape to attach it to the enclosure.

it works perfectly

it does not have to look pretty as the drive is only used for backup files so most of the time it is kept in a laptop bag.

This USB/SATA adapter uses the excellent JMicron JMS578 chip, and not one of the underwhelming ASMedia chips that some of the competing adapters use. This means that this adapter gives you proper UASP speed/functionality on the Linux mainline kernel, currently at 5.18. Something you're unlikely to get from an adapter using an ASMedia storage chip when using Linux.

I can confirm this works on a 12TB 3.5 HD.

Other things that stand out about this adapter is that the USB cable is removable, it has a built in on/off toggle switch, and they didn't cheap out on the 12V adapter power cable length, like the last competing adapter like this I bought.

This USB to SATA adapter checks all the boxes:
- Uses the JMicron JMS578 USB storage controller, so it is UAS compatible on Linux for the fastest transfer speeds.
- Removable USB cable.
- Decent length of cable on the 12V power adapter.
- Power switch on the device.
- Works with a 12TB hard drive.

I just got it and tested it. So I cannot comment on how long it will last but it appears to be well built and good quality, so I would expect long life.

Pros:
- USB 3.0 speed appears to perform as expected
- Downward compatible to USB 2.0 (I tested it and it works fine)
- 2 amp at 12V power supply should be ample for any hard drive or burner
- Easy connections
- On / off switch

Cons:
32 inch long USB cable supplied is pretty short and 48 inch long power cable is also pretty short, but in combination it probably won't be where you want it, and rather it will be where the short cables dictate it be located.

Overall, I am very happy with it and feel it is good value.

Having previously tried various Chinese devices through Amazon that were unable to have my Windows 11 Pro (x64) operating system recognise my old Pioneer BDR-209EBK internal optical drive and therefore had to be returned, I finally found this device after a good deal of forum searching and it works perfectly. I have not tried it with formerly internal HDDs yet but I am wholly confident that it will work. I would therefore highly recommend this device to all who have old but working optical drives & hard disk drives from old computer builds but no bay or provision in their current computer rigs for the installation of an optical drive or not enough space for all the old HDDs they might have. I am absolutely delighted.
