The only Cher collection to contain every one of her #1 hits! And those were Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves; Half-Breed; Dark Lady; Believe , and (with Sonny) I Got You Babe , plus this 21-track beauty boasts such smashes as The Beat Goes On; Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down); If I Could Turn Back Time; Just Like Jesse James; All I Really Want to Do , and more. The one to have!
Given a five-decade career that's been one long series of critical write-offs and subsequent comeback triumphs, it's tempting to argue that the natural elements are actually earth, wind, fire, water--and Cher. Anchored by her 1998 international mega-success "Believe" (the song that made Cher the oldest woman to score a chart topper) and its equally club-savvy contemporary collaborations with producers Mark Taylor and Brian Rawlings, "Song for the Lonely" and "A Different Kind of Love Song," this 21-track anthology is indeed the first to contain all her No. 1 hits, stretching back to her epochal 1965 duet with Sonny Bono on the faux-Dylan "I Got You Babe." And if it shortchanges her Phil Spector-rooted origins and a true perspective on her '60s and '70s career (though kitsch classic chart toppers "Dark Lady," "Half-Breed," and "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" are all here) to focus on her string of '80s and '90s pop successes in service of writers like Diane Warren ("If I Could Turn Back Time") and Desmond Child ("Just Like Jesse James"), it's good to remember that, according to the pop soothsayers, none of them were even supposed to happen, let alone make her an icon for a whole new generation. It's a tribute to sheer, fashion-defying willpower--and as unlikely an argument for the notion of "the singer, not the song" as one is likely to find. --Jerry McCulley

Then I saw this CD. Sure are a lot of hits on it, so I put it in the CD player and was whisked away.
Aha! That is why Cher's fans said farewell numerous times! It's all explained in a FANTASTIC best hits album with twenty-one (!!) songs on it.
From "Dark Lady" to her remake of the "Shoop Shoop Song" from Mermaids, there is not one song that didn't have me singing.
There it is. I'm a Cher fan now.
So I must whole-heartedly recommend this album to fans and not-yet-fans alike, because it is packed with her best stuff.
See you at the next Farewell concert...
However, I found the sequencing on those CDs much better than this one. This one starts off with her 90s and 80s hits but it pretty much goes all over the map once you hit the halfway point on the first disc. The second disc is made up of some recent dance songs, classics from the 60s and 70s and some duets from each decade. But I wish the album had followed a chronological order. You get no sense of how Cher's voice or sound gradually changed throughout the years.
The one glaring omission is Cher's version of "Alfie" which hit the top 40 and a favorite of Cher's, and a version which is somewhat overshadowed by Cilla Black and Dionne Warwick's versions. I would also have liked to have heard more songs from her 1987 self-titled comeback album and 1996's "It's A Man's World".
The collection of songs here is very good, you'll find her biggest songs in just one cd which for me is very good because I hate albums that come in two discs. Because every time that you want to listen to one or other song you have to switch cds. The only two mistakes that I found with this collection is that they didn't add her 1987 Top 15 hit "We all sleep alone" and instead of that song you'll find "A different kind of love song" which is a good song but wasn't a hit and the other mistake is that "Bang, bang" appears in its original version. The new version from 1987 is much better.
Some of the songs here are: "If I could turn back time", "Believe", "Save up all your tears", "Strong enough", "I found someone" and "Take me home".
CD 2 (Live, The farewell tour)
Cher's Farewell Tour was very good, the songs were very good chosen and the show was very Cher.
In this cd you'll find almost all the songs that she sang. The missing ones are "Save up all your tears", "A different kind of love" and "All sleep alone". Cher's voice and music are very good live. On the shows she sang in a medley her early hits "All I really want to do", "Gypsies, tramps and thieves", "Dark lady" and "Half-breed". That's the version that you'll get of those songs in this cd.
There's nothing left to say about this cd 'cause we all know Cher (whether you love her or hate her).
The only thing that I'd recommend is to buy the Farewell Tour DVD.
