Vicious Cycle is one of those motorcycle romance reads that I am guilty of loving, look you either like MC romance or you don't - please don't judge me as I love them. Probably it is the bad boy on the bike secret desires that us good Catholic girls have!

I love that we get a story that can sometimes be rough around the edges but then gives us a soft gooey feel good centre too. So my favourite part was the relationship between the daughter Willow and her dad Deacon but also the most beautiful and carefree Alexandra. I loved how these characters in the end found love, family and new beginnings.

Deacon was the gruff dad but I could see he was fighting his yearning to be that great dad all along, he was just afraid to make bad decisions and the supporting characters in the club made me laugh out loud. I also really was enamoured with the relationship between the mother and her sons, I loved Rev & Bishop too and cannot wait for their story!

Again, dual POV is my favourite as I get to see both sides of the characters feelings.

This story is easy to read, flows quickly and you will fall in love with Willow - she is just an angel child. It is funny that her dad is the big gruff biker who at the start barely hugs the child due to his own issues and by the end with Alexandra's help gives the father and daughter a new relationship that is just beautiful.

Do I love a sappy MC romance that I know is all fantasy - is the pope catholic? - again no judgement readers - just a sucker for romance I am.

Just on one negative I do think the price for this story is a little high for the type of read - yes I liked it but not for the $6.00 price tag in Australia.

HASH(0xa73355b8) out of 5 stars Not one I'd rec for anyone who loves MC romances June 3 2015
By Anna's herding cats - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Unfortunately, Vicious Cycle was not for me. The only way I can think to explain it is like watching a little girl playing dress up in her mother's clothes and high heels. All the bits are there but things just don't fit quite right. This one was trying to be a motorcycle club romance but it just couldn't quite figure out how to get there and ended up being a pretty flat rendition of one. The words might have been right, the set up right but it lacked the grit, depth and believable flavors of an MC.

I was actually doing okay with this one for the first little bit. It was no where near the levels of Sheehan or Joanna Wylde's MCs but none the less it was entertaining. A single daddy who was new to the job raising his daughter, her life being in danger and her school teacher snooping around and getting involved in their world. It had some great elements that were working for me. But then slowly bit by bit it fell apart and kept getting more outlandish and unbelievable.

The club members were very much p-whipped by the women in their lives. They tried to act tough--they threw around swears, postured, slept around--but one little pout from the women and the men would cave and apologize for thinking anything else. They just weren't believable as badass bikers that are involved in illegal trade despite a handful of violent scenes thrown in. And then at the end that was taken to the extreme when they go 'clean'.

I did like the hero overall. Decaon's a new-found daddy and struggles something fierce with that but he did come around and it was sweet and touching watching his love for his little girl develop. The little girl was adorable as well and I don't typically think authors do a great job of portraying children but Ashley did a very nice job in that regard. At the start I thought I'd like the heroine but that very much started to change when she confessed her deep dark secret and I lost all respect for her at this point. Alex also went from pretty sturdy/solid woman with back bone to being manipulative, having wild mood swings and extreme reactions to things like him having to go to the strip club he co-owned to hire new dancers. Totally flew off the handle sobbing and breaking up with him because how could he?!! if he really loved her! She just was too much to handle.

Some extreme plot devices towards the end that were supposed to bring huge emotional reactions were overdone and instead landed in the ridiculous category for me. Including how the villain was dispatched. And the heroine very much deballing the hero once again and him stepping in line with her decisions.

This is not one I'd recommend to lovers of motorcycle romances. I'd had high hopes and was really looking forward to this one but in the end it just flat out didn't work for me and I won't be continuing on with the series.

HASH(0xa733560c) out of 5 stars Fell a bit flat for me... June 2 2015
By Reader's Candy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
*Received an ARC for an honest review*
I'm a huge Katie Ashley fan, but this one fell a bit flat for me. She came out of her comfort zone to write something different and I think it showed. A lot of the content reminded me of tv shows and other biker reads. It followed the cliché mold and while I know bikers probably do similar things... I would have liked to see some twists that made the story stand out from others.

The characters were a touchy subject for me. While I loved Willow and her tiny spirit... Alexandra was not one of my favorites. When she was first introduced I thought she was going to be awesome. She was strong willed, smart, and sweet... However, somewhere near halfway she started to change. She became desperate for Deacon's attention. She went out of her way to throw herself at him and as a reader, that took away the appeal. Near the end she did start to redeem herself. Unfortunately by that time everything was in a rush to an HEA.

Overall, I thought this story had all of the ingredients to be a five star read, but unfortunately just lacked the confidence to execute and was a bit scattered. It was a dark read concept wrote as a contemporary mc read. You will see in the beginning Deacon says some vulgar things and than there is a huge description about how his club would never do what he threatened. To me, this just made him come off as unsure. I say if you're going to go mc dark, go mc dark. Let the actions do the talking.

I applaud the Author for trying something new and I am sure biker fans will devour this read... It just didn't work for me.

HASH(0xa7335a44) out of 5 stars Much different than I am used to from Katie... June 2 2015
By T. Zautner - Published on Amazon.com

Vicious Cycle is not for the faint of heart. There are no pretty hearts and rainbows in this story. I would even venture to say this might just be Katie’s grittiest book to date. What I can say is that if you are looking for a cocky, non-filtered MC hero look no further then David "Deacon" Malloy.

I am a seasoned reader of Katie’s so when I tell you this book is gritty for her, I mean it can get downright raw and descriptive. I was so not expecting the story I got from Katie. I am used to either her softer, sweet stories that pull at your heartstrings with their angst, or the ones that have you swooning over hot rockers. Therefore, when I opened to the prologue I was blown away. Katie had my attention focused on her characters, and by the end of the first chapter, my blood was also boiling. I found myself completely and utterly hooked. Line and sinker.

Deacon is our resident bad boy, and we’re going to start with him since he is the main player in this wild game of love and hate. I honestly did not know what in the world to think of him at first. Hate/love…these lines had a way of blurring. And boy did they blur. Katie introduces us to the hero with one hell of an alarming scene. A scene that left my mouth hanging open and my friend assuring me that David wasn’t the biggest d**k I had ever met.

I’d like to say, I was immediately soothed by this; however, it took me a bit to warm up to this poignant and threatening man. I just could not wrap my mind around him. And even less so when he meets Willow (his daughter). I think because he was so different from what Katie normally writes that it was hard to picture her writing someone so…I don’t even know how to properly describe him. Over time, I began to adjust to his dominating and crude ways. Underneath all of his foul mouth remarks and abrasive behavior was a hardcore man who honored loyalty and showed a softer side to those he considered his. This takes a bit to discover, but once you do, it doesn’t take long for Deacon to become a worthy hero.

Now, I am not saying he loses any of his abrasiveness; you just come to see it for what it is. He’s still Deacon—a cocky, foul mouthed, deadly MCer I wouldn’t want to run into in a dark alley way.

Next up is Deacon’s beautiful little girl. She snagged my heart immediately! I loved everything this little five-year-old. Katie has an amazing way of bring children to life in her books. She portrays them with such realism. You can’t help but fall in love with them on the spot. Willow was the shining star of Vicious Cycle. I hope we see more of her in her uncles books!!

Speaking of uncles, I have to be totally honest here—I am in love with Rev. That’s the real reason David couldn’t steal my heart. It already belonged to his brother. Rev made my heart sigh with his sweet self. I just wanted to wrap him up in a big hug and distract him with lots of wicked things. His character was off the charts for me. Katie wrapped up his past, perfectly outfitted with intrigue and mystery. So much so, I want to unwrap every single layer. Rev is an enigma waiting to be discovered.

Ok, last, but not least, Alex. She was actually my least favorite character. I can’t tell you exactly what it was about her that made it so I couldn’t connect with her. She started out all kind and warm-hearted; a character you would think would snag your heart instantly with her sweetness, but somewhere along the way, her allure rather dissipated for me. There wasn’t really one thing to narrow down my dislike and for that I am sorry. I hate not being able to give a specific reason why I disliked a character.

As far as an MC book goes I would say that Katie provided us with some grit, some uncomfortable gory scenes, and underneath all of that she provided us with a love story that featured two total opposites. Deacon and Alex were interesting characters to say the least. I loved that they both found a way to mesh their personalities together to form a solid, loving couple for Willow.

As you can tell, Vicious Cycle and I had a strong love hate relationship going on. It became wicked intense at times. I struggled with the main characters something fierce, and if I am to be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would ever come to like who they were. The main protagonists had me second-guessing myself and losing my way here and there.

With that said, each character definitely found their niche and grew on me. I would most definitely move on to Rev’s book!

HASH(0xa7335a2c) out of 5 stars Kudos for Katie Ashley!!! I want Deacon to take me for a ride!!! June 2 2015
By Maria D - Published on Amazon.com

Vicious Cycle has been one of my most highly anticipated books this year. I have been dying to get my hands on it since the first whisper that Katie Ashley would be writing an MC series. And she does not disappoint! Whether she is writing wealthy businessmen, hot rockers, and now bikers, Ms.Ashley knows how to make the reader fall for her sexy hero and root for the couple to get their happy ever after.

The world of MC Romance is gritty, raw and dark. Katie Ashley manages to capture the romance and keep the reader focused on the love story rather than club business. Don’t get me wrong, Ms. Ashley paints a provocative tale of illegal activity, danger and rivalry. But the heart of Vicious Cycle is the growing relationship between Deacon and Alexandra when their world’s collide with an unexpected blast from his past that brings them together.

“Angels…beautiful angels with dark hair are coming for you. They are your only salvation.” ~ Preacher Man

David ‘Deacon’ Malloy is a walking, talking sin. Dangerous, lethal, sexy as hell, he is trouble personified. But there’s something good and sweet about him. As he learns his way with Willow, one can’t help but fall hard for him. As does Alexandra Evans, Willow’s teacher. It doesn’t start that way, though the chemistry can’t be denied, in fact the tension is palpable, however, both appear to be blind to it or simply in denial. The world of MC clubs is foreign to Alexandra and if not for Willow, she’d never have gotten involved. But, there’s something about Deacon that pulls at her, too.

The push / pull adds to the intensity of the story. Katie Ashley uses dual POV to let the reader get inside her characters’ heads. I love this type of writing because it really allows the reader to understand the characters and their motivation. It helps us see the reasons they do what they do, why they make the choices they make. And Katie Ashley does a wonderful job developing the characters through this style of writing.

Vicious Cycle is fast paced and kept me engaged from cover to cover. There were twists and unexpected turns that had me holding my breath. Yet, beyond the action, drama and violence, the beauty of this story is the romance between Deacon and Alex and the love of family. It’s a story of two unlikely people coming together and complementing each other. It’s swoon worthy for sure. Did I mention that Deacon is HOT?! Panty melter!!

“I would die a thousand deaths just to see you like this. Just to have another chance to bury my c**k deep inside you.” ~ Deacon

The secondary characters add so much to the story. Deacon’s brothers, mother and fellow club members add humor and depth. I loved Rev and Bishop! In fact I can’t wait for Rev’s story!! This is the beginning of what’s sure to be an amazing series by author Katie Ashley. If you like a good romance and enjoy the MC genre, you’ll love Ms. Ashley’s take on it. I did.

HASH(0xa7335ee8) out of 5 stars 4 VICIOUS STARS! June 2 2015
By Jess Alderette ~ Crazy, Chaotic Book Babes - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I'm a sucker, a sucker I tell ya, for a good Motorcycle Club read. Pair that love with one of my favorite authors, and its sure to be a hit.

Katie Ashley has taken my love for her writing to a whole new level in Vicious Cycle. Vicious Cycle follows Deacon, sergeant at arms for the Hell's Raiders MC. Deacon is a badass who takes crap from no one. I wouldn't expect anything less from him though. When his world is turned upside down with the news that he has a daughter, Deacon doesn't take the news very well. It takes him a long time to warm up to Willow.

When a threat from the past and a rival motorcycle club threaten the thing most precious to him, Deacon is ready to fight for his family. He doesn't expect to fall in love with the fiery and determined Alex, Willow's teacher. Deacon and Alex play a fun game of cat and mouse in this fun and fast paced story by Katie Ashley.

The plot in this book just seemed to continue to thicken as you turn the pages. From the beginning, to the climax, to the pages at the very end, this book held and captivated my attention.

Katie Ashley's writing, like all the previous stories I've read by her, was flawless and flowed smoothly. I loved the dynamic she placed between Deacon and Alex and even more the dynamic between Deacon and his journey to be a good father to Willow. If you're looking for your next MC read, look no further as this book delivers it all.

I can't wait for the next chapter of the Hell's Raiders, Redemption Road.

4 STARS!
