HASH(0xa29a351c) out of 5 stars Something Different Jan. 22 2012
By SuzieQ - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I had never heard of Lana Del Rey before she appeared on SNL. I watched the performance, and I felt the critics were a tad too harsh. Don't listen to them. I liked the song,Video Games. I was curious and looked for it on Youtube. I really like it. I also listened to some of her other songs and can't wait for her album to come out. If you haven't heard of her or you've only seen or heard about the SNL performance, give her a shot. Finally something that is not pop. She's different.

This is an edit.
I bought the album, and listened to the whole thing. It is amazing.

HASH(0xa2998d8c) out of 5 stars The most compelling female voice since Fiona Apple Oct. 13 2011
By Katherine A. Yoerg - Published on

First, let me summarize my musical tastes in regards to female artists. I appreciate PJ Harvey, Tori Amos & Fiona Apple primarily. Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie by Alanis was a great album too, but I don't care for her later stuff. I care about lyrics, vocal quality, & meaning. I also like there to be a little something more going on musically than just an acoustic guitar. The whole "girl with a guitar" thing does not really work for me. So, all that said...

Lana Del Rey is the most compelling female artist I have heard in years. I listen to new music all the time, HOPING to find something that interests me or catches my attention the way that my other favorite female artists have done in the past. Lana Del Rey does it.

I absolutely cannot wait for her album. I love the orchestrations, her voice, her delivery, her lyrics...I couldn't care less about her image or who came up with it. I don't look at her when I play my I-pod. From my understanding she had a musical career loooong before her new image, so the talent is there. Believe me, the talent is freaking there.

If I play these two songs anymore my Ipod may blow up or something, my infatuation with them is really that bad. Simply amazing. Video Games moves me to tears on my drive to work in the morning and Blue Jeans captures every desperate, crying in the kitchen floor moment of your heartbroken youth that you sometimes wish you could forget about.

HASH(0xa2ace810) out of 5 stars A Modern Day Poetess! Jan. 25 2012
By whitechocolatebrotha - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Not only is she beautiful, but her detached persona is a perfect vehicle for this astonishingly haunting song. Lyrically, Carly Simon comes to mind with moody dips and brooding focuses of codependence vs. singular existence. It's a new and interesting look at "relationships" for the current day coupled with a memorable melody and impeccably understated delivery. Musically, Tori Amos and/or Kate Bush seem to present as possible inspirations. She's a modern-day poetess!

Although I am perplexed by the need for remixes geared toward clubs for such an "acoustic" masterpiece, I sense a bright future for this sensual new artist
with and by its first, original version.

HASH(0xa2acf8ac) out of 5 stars So so so excited for this artist!!!!!!!!!! Oct. 28 2011
By J. Johnson - Published on
Several years ago, Amazon put Lana del Rey's 'Gramma' as a free song. I hunted high and low but couldn't find any other songs from her for download. Even on YouTube it was scarce (she did a fabulous version of 'happiest girl in the whole usa' and another song about a scary boyfriend, can't remember the title). but this girl is the goods. her debut will be album of the year, she will rack up all the grammys.

I hope 'gramma' is on the debut album - that song will haunt your dreams. Part little girl, part tramp, part Sandra Dee and all amazing, this is a portrait of what happens to that fun-loving party girl you'd like to think has no soul. Rooting for you Lana/Lizzy!
