Came on time. The recording is good but less impressive than the Victoria de los Angeles version on Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1, 2, 5 & 9.

HASH(0x99436828) out of 5 stars Great Recording Oct. 18 2011

It's a brilliant record, beautiful work with a beautiful interpretation. In my opinion these are the best works by Heitor Villa-Lobos. It is a triple CD made in the Netherlands. Excellent value for money.

HASH(0x99436a74) out of 5 stars A Good Choice May 16 2014

To demean this set because it is allegedly "riddled with errors" ignores the reality that because Villa-Lobos did not "correct" them there can be no definitive account. In his favorable review of the Naxos recording, Gramophone's Guy Rickards concludes, "My recommendation for the `complete orchestral' set remains with Bátiz." Enjoy either performance--or both if your pocketbook allows.

HASH(0x99436a38) out of 5 stars Spirited but riddled with errors July 9 2013
By CD Maniac - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a very spirited account of the Villa-Lobos series of works titled "Bachianas Brasilerias", which match musical forms of Bach with modern rhythms and harmonies of Brazil. There is a lot of good in these performances.
However, everyone involved in this recording dropped the ball in regards to the performance materials used. The printed parts are full of mistakes, due to careless publishers who didn't bother to proof their work (and Villa Lobos having his music published mostly in France and therefore not being available nearby to proof their work before it went into print). Conductors and orchestra music librarians should have been well aware that before these pieces can be performed and recorded, a lot of proofing work has to be spent correcting the materials the musicians read off of. None of this seems to have taken place here. Wrong notes and rhythms abound in these recordings, ruining an otherwise fine set of discs.
If the conductor (and/or librarian) had even bothered to compare their scores with the old recordings of these same pieces by the composer himself (in the 1950's with an admittedly inferior orchestra), it would have been immediately obvious the many corrections he made for his set.
To be fair, Batiz is not the only conductor to have let these errors slide by--Jesus Lopez-Cobos did no better in his recordings with the Cincinnati Symphony (on Telarc).
To date the most accurate set of recordings is that by the Nashville Symphony on the Naxos label (with the complete Bachianas Barasileiras). They took the time to get the notes and rhythms right on the printed page before recording a note.

HASH(0x99436dc8) out of 5 stars How much do you like Villa-Lobos? July 24 2010

The main advantage of this set is that you get a whole bunch of Villa-Lobos, including the complete Bachianas Brasileiras, at a low price. However, I find the performances no better than OK and the sound a bit boxy.
