Having said all that... This program totally worked for me. I lost 9 pounds the first week, and 2- 2.5 pounds per week thereafter. I discovered that gluten was the culprit for me. I went a month without pasta, without bread, without flour, crackers anything and then when I finally reintroduced them, within 2 days I was pushing them away because the headaches, joint pain and bloating were so pronounced. Ditto dairy- after years of acne and oily hair, after a month on the program my hair and skin are fantastic! I feel better than I have in years, and that is real motivation to keep going.
I think this program works well for me because I love cooking, love healthy foods and have the time and motivation to plan and execute meals. I think that vegetarians (I am mostly vegetarian) may struggle with it because she is so adamant about "lean clean protein" in the form of beef, fish etc. Also, it is very all or nothing- not a book which advocates moderation. Despite all these caveats- I've got to say no other diet book has ever had anywhere near the impact on me that this one has.
Just wanted to add an update. I started this plan January 1, 2013. It is March 23 and so far I have lost 26 pounds. (ultimate goal 52). The food I am eating is so flavourful, and I feel so good that it has really not been much of a struggle. I think I'd upgrade this to five stars now.
Good content, lousy read.
It is a simple read and I agree with the other reviewer Deb Dorsey,that there is more than enough self promotion throughout the pages,but getting beyond that and extracting the real facts is easy to do. I sat with a high-lighter and pulled out all of the important, useful information.
JJ Virgin's shake products are not available in Canada at this time so there is a little modification to the program but this was not difficult to do it is all just a matter of demographics. The concept remains the same.
I began Cycle 1 two weeks ago and have already lost 10 pounds! I think that the best part of this is that after buying the book and connecting with her online there is endless support. She follows up with encouraging videos and tracking information. She is there to answer any questions. I am trying it the JJ way!
I'm hoping that after completing all 7 weeks that I will know for sure which food groups I should eliminate from my regular diet.
I have read other books telling me why I shouldn't have certain foods but they never really gave a plan as to how I should make those changes. This book has a solid plan and if you are really serious about your health it is all laid out for you to try.
