HASH(0x987b283c) out of 5 stars Interesting view of a future world Sept. 13 2002
By Plusle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
In an England abandoned by People, covered in water and inhabitated only by scavenging animals, a small group of friends set out on a journey. Pal the dog, Ned the horse, Freda the cow, Pansy the kitten, Offa the pigeon, and Stanley, who doesn't know what he is. In order to find out his true idenity, the group takes a boat, the QV66, and begins the long and difficult journey from Carlisle to London Zoo. For there, they are sure, they will find the answer. Wit and wordplay abound, and the animals are delightfully ignorant of the human items they find, and their goofy explainations of them are often very funny. A fun, lighthearted read.
HASH(0x98497198) out of 5 stars Adorable March 2 2012
By Rachel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
In a post-apocalyptic world devoid of humans, 7 talking animals unite for a quest to London where they wish to discover the identity of one of their friends. On the way, they meet quite a few interesting animals and exciting adventures. This is an adorable book appropriate for pre-pubescent children, with a reading level of perhaps a 10 year old. It is also quite enjoyable for adults who like children's lit. I wish it were still in print!
HASH(0x9849a33c) out of 5 stars GET THIS BACK IN PRINT! June 8 2007

Format: Hardcover
Really! I had to track this down at a library in order to read it, and I'd like my son to be able to read it when he's old enough. It's pretty cool sci-fantasy for kids. It doesn't even seem dated. If you can get your hands on it, I think kids still too young for The Borribles will enjoy this less-dark journey instead (even though the background story is still pretty freaky and dark).
HASH(0x9849a6fc) out of 5 stars Fantastic! Oct. 11 1998

This book is - indubitably - the most enjoyable, intriguing, humourous, atmospheric, inventive and affecting novel for children yet written.
