FINALLY the wait is over! After years of scwabbling over song licensing, a shoddy/horrific 2007 release of season one that had ALL of the original music removed and numerous scenes (and jokes) cut, Shout! Factory has done a fantastic job in bringing a classic TV series to DVD that really should have been one of the first TV shows to DVD due to it's popularity in syndication after all these years.

Are ALL of the songs restored to this set? No, the bickering over costs and out and out refusals by certain artists to allow snippets of their songs to be used as they had in the original boardcast of the series prevented some songs from appearing. But Shout! did an impressive job of licensing MOST of the music, or in the few cases where they had to replace songs, they replaced them with the utmost care and respect to the fans. Much has been made about the loss of Pink Floyd's "Dogs" from the soundtrack of one of the series' most popular episodes of all time..."Turkeys Away", however shout replaced this song with a similar sounding song, with dogs barking, and retaining the joke in the conversation in the booth between the characters of Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson and beloved series DJ Dr. Johnny Fever. The scene was enjoyable and worked, unlike the previous DVD release back in 2007.

In order to reduce the music licensing costs back in the late 70's, series creator Hugh Wilson decided to shoot the show on videotape rather than the industry standard at the time for sitcoms to be shot with film. As a result, we're forced to put up with the odd blip here and there from the limitations of the videotape. However, each episode looks very clear when played back on a 55" HDTV and Blu-Ray player with upconversion.

There are too many problems with getting good professional discs. Shout Factory have been around long enough to give proper stuff. I have never seen so much --- I'm lost for words unless I resort to lower deck language.

I've always liked this show, and pre-ordered it when it became available. I've just finished the first disc, and have enjoyed every episode so far. The first disc had the famous turkey giveaway, I could watch that episode a million times! The quality of the video is excellent, even if it isn't HD. The nicest thing is the absence of ads, you won't be bombarded by commercials before every episode.

If you ever wondered about AM R&R music stations in the 70s, this is for you!

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." Worth having just for that episode, but the others are just as good. Sometimes TV gets it right, and this is one of those series that was hilarious even when it did not mean to be. Unforgettable characters and many classic lines. WKRP will bring a smile to your face during the winter months.

"Attention Fellow Babies!" (Dr. Johnny Fever)
AWESOME!!!! Worth every penny! Even funnier than I remember. The most laughs per episode of any sit-com. They just don't make shows this good anymore. Considering what they had to work with Shout factory did an excellent job of digitalizing the series, looks better than I hoped (as do Jennifer and Bailey!). I would have been more impressed if ALL the original music was back, however they did a good job of getting the rights for most of it. The reruns on TV with all the music replaced with crap or missing entirely was depressing and unwatchable. These discs have breathed new life into a classic. Thank you Shout Factory!!!
If you are a fan of WKRP or just looking for some decent humour (not based on insults or putting people down) then you should order this set. You won't be disappointed.

It is great to finally get this series on DVD - it really is like stepping back into a better time, when things were not so serious and everything was a crisis (or at least that is what the media tells us or "security experts"). Given that this series was made over 30 years ago, one should not expect the same image quality and you would get with current series on the same format but within that limitation the image and audio quality is good - there are the odd grainy patches but I am pleased with the video. Although if you are viewing it on a large screen (say over 40") you likely do want to be back a ways from the screen or it will be grainy. As other reviewers have noted, some of the songs are missing but overall the series is intact and is as much fun to watch now as it was when it came out. The packaging is reasonable and overall it was a good purchase

Highly recommend this set as a huge WKRP fan! Almost all the original music has been restored, as have many, many scenes that were only shown during the original run. The syndicated versions are pale, diced up ground chuck compared to this fine prime rib (or is that a side of beef, fully dressed?)

The extras are a little lame, but the episodes are worth every penny. A must-have for any WKRP fan and for anyone who is a fan of great television!

A classic well-written sitcom that deserves repeated viewings! The first season is a little uneven at times but still contains classic episodes (ie, the oft-quoted Turkeys Away! is a staple but there are other even funnier episodes) as well as witty and "warped" dialogue. The series writing, acting and directing improves quickly and the rest of the episodes right up to the finale are all gems. TV doesnt get much better than this, especially with this box set that includes the uncut, original broadcast episodes (not the butchered syndicated eps) and much of the original 70's-80's music restored. The humble production value is more than made up for with strong character and story, which conquers the lame, dumb and gross comedy of today. (Watch out for the alternate version of "The Contest Nobody Could Win" - interesting addition...)
