About the Author

Steph Nuss was born and raised in rural Kansas, where she currently resides with her black Labrador son named Gunner. She grew up with a passion for reading and writing. When she’s not immersed into the land of fiction, she enjoys listening to music that came before her time, watching movies and reruns of her favorite shows, and hanging out with her family and friends. She also has a bachelor’s degree in psychology that she’ll never use…unless she’s profiling her characters of course.

HASH(0x98b3c5f4) out of 5 stars Zero tension or suspense July 11 2014

I usually enjoy second-chance romances, but there were undertones to this book that I found extremely unrealistic and a bit unsettling.

Carter and Elly meet on their first day of college and they are immediately attracted to each other. The book begins with the story of their meeting and then flashes forward to nine years later. Despite being best friends all throughout college and being attracted to each other, neither one of them ever made a move. The only way Nuss can paper over this huge discrepancy is to skip their college years altogether. It’s just so bizarre that they never expressed their feelings, despite feeling sure the other one was the person of their dreams or that their friends, who were aware of their feelings, never let anything slip.

Carter leaves New York after college and the two don’t keep in touch, not even on Facebook (in fact, Carter doesn’t keep up with anyone from their circle of friends, not even infrequently over the internet). He’s so convinced that Elly is the one for them that he gets an Elly-themed tattoo (creeper!), but he doesn’t even friend her? He becomes the CEO of an oil company and, in his spare time, gets a Ph.D in English (!!!!!). When a job opens up at NYC, someone just happens to call him to offer him the job (this delightfully rosy take on the job prospects of a recent humanities Ph.D with no in-person teaching experience was fanciful, to say the least).

So, now Carter’s back in New York, just in time to reconnect with Elly (whose career also has a suspiciously elevated arc, as she has her own psychology clinic at a time in her life when she likely would have just completed her studies). The tension in the story is fatally undercut by the author’s decision to alternate each chapter between the POVs of the two mains. We never get a chance for any suspense, tension, or doubt to develop because they’re constantly declaring how much they care about each other and are ready to spend the rest of their lives together. There is a brief wrinkle later in the plot, but nothing can stand in the way of this love story that was pretty much complete the first moment these two set eyes on each other.

Mild spoiler alert: If my boyfriend of a few months, on hearing that I needed major surgery, declared that he needed those parts to make babies, I would dump him immediately. It boggles the mind that we’re supposed to think this is sweet or charming. I would have told him to get out of the office immediately.

HASH(0x98b3c840) out of 5 stars Not my kind of book. At all. May 17 2015

I loved the initial premise. Two best (smart) friends secretly in love, reunited. But if you're looking for a book with meaningful dialogue, or secondary characters differentiated by more than their names this is not your book, and in fact the "really smart" protagonists barely have a conversation. No tension, no real angst (ok a bit, she was worried and didn't talk to him about her fears, she cried a lot and then eventually they talked). By 50% I had to declare defeat. I am pleased for the spoiler alerts on here so I don't have to press on through reams of "manful" tongue placement to find the big drama because it certainly is taking it torturous way to get there. Definitely not my kind of book.
And for the record: "affect" is the noun. "Effect" is the verb. "Reins" are what people take when they take control. "Reigns" are monarchical.

HASH(0x98b3c804) out of 5 stars Sweet, Second Chance Romance! Feb. 27 2014
By SARAH - Published on Amazon.com

3.5 stars!

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite storylines. I love a good second chance romance!

Wanted by You is a very sweet, contemporary romance written in dual point of views. There’s very little angst. If you’re looking for a sweet love story, this is for you.

We first meet Carter and Ellyson when they are in college (I loved their first meeting), and then again when a chance encounter brings them back together years later. The sparks are definitely still there, and they feel them immediately.

The story goes back and forth, along with their POVs. We get glimpses into their past, which really helped to get to know them better, and understand how it helped shaped the people they are today. They just aren’t the same as they were in college. Life and experience has changed them greatly, and it was fun going on the journey with them as they entered each other’s lives again after such a long absence. Carter was very swoon-worthy, and Elly was such a relatable, witty heroine. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters as well.

I really appreciated that this story wasn’t full of unnecessary angst. There was enough happening just in their everyday lives to keep things interesting enough, without the addition of crazy drama. I do have to mention that I thought the story dragged a little bit in some parts. I also felt like while all the right components to make an amazing story were present, it just seemed to lack any major spark. It didn’t completely grab me and suck me in. With that being said, I still enjoyed it, and look forward to the next books in the series.

MY THOUGHTS~
I received an arc of this book to review.
I quickly fell in love with characters in this book. I absolutely LOVE a "friends-to-lovers" story and this book is that and then some! It takes you on an emotional ride along with the main characters. I would have liked to have seen more of their past in the beginning of the book than the author included, but the past was outlined throughout the story, so there weren't too many blank spots. I feel like the characters were well defined. The story was well written, which I appreciate as a reader and grammar junkie :) I will definitely be on the lookout for a sequel! Even if a continuation of the series means future books may be about other characters in the book rather than the "original" couple, I look forward to reading their stories!

Loved everything about this book. The story was excellent and the plot was well thought out. The twist toward the end was such a shock and totally unexpected. From there on in I just couldn't put the book down. I had to find out whether everything was going to turn out for the better or not.

Carter and Elle (Ellyson) were just beautiful together. Really came across as a real couple, with real struggles in a real world. Nothing in life is ever easy, esspecially love. Yet Carter and Elle proved that it is worth fight for.

I can't wait to read more from this series and discover more about the other characters from this book.
