When all the villains in Arkham Asylum team up and break loose, only the dynamic duo is bold enough to take them on to save Gotham City. The fun of LEGO, the drama of Batman and the uniqueness of the combination makes for a comical and exciting adventure in LEGO Batman: The Videogame. Play as Batman and his sidekick Robin as you build, drive, swing and fight your way through Gotham City capturing escaped villains including The Joker, Penguin, Scarecrow and more. Then, jump into the story from the other side and play as Batmans foes! Enjoy the power you wield and battle Batman while spreading chaos throughout the city. There is no rest for the good (or evil!).

The game controls are very easy and the difficultly level is fairly low. As such, this game will not represent a challenge to avid gamers, but it suits well for casual gamers and younger children. That being said, this game is about having fun, and in that it is quite successful! Batman and Robin have several suites, and each one gives them a special ability. We especially enjoyed the wings for Batman and the magnetic boots for Robin. The game is of course set in Gotham City, and this setting is nicely rendered in Lego blocks with a lot of dark and creepy areas. As in the other Lego games, new characters (the villains!) get unlocked as you play the game, which brings a lot of replayability.
Unlike Lego Star Wars (and Lego Indiana Jones from what I have heard), Lego Batman does not recreate the Batman movies and the adventures are entirely original. We both highly recommend this game, even if you are not Batman fans.
For those who have never played a Lego game before, the concept is so simple, it's brilliant. You play as a Lego version of the main character and have at least one AI sidekick (or you can play with two people, which I highly recommend for reasons I'll go into shortly) that is more than just "back-up" -- there are areas in the game that you literally cannot reach without the help of the other character. Actual team-based playing that is truly TEAM-based, what are the odds?! :D If playing single player, you can also bounce back and forth between the characters in order to solve the puzzles and move around the environments more readily. The fighting is ridiculously simple for those of us gamers who readily admit that battle is not our strong point, and smashing public property all over Gotham is a great way to get extra Lego studs (the game's version of currency) as well as find special Lego bricks that you can use to build vehicles, equipment, and specialized Batman and Robin suits. The levels have different styles of puzzles, and there are a number of chase-based levels, where you are required to latch onto something (the bad guys' vehicle, bombs, ramps, etc.) with the Batmobile, Batjet, Batboat or whatever you're driving and drag it to a specific location in order to win the level.Read more ›
