I’m admittedly not great at flossing regularly, but the Waterpik Water Flosser has got me hooked. I was shocked how much food residue was coming out the first time I used it.The Aquarius models helps you control the pressure, comes with a number of different tips, and has a timer that pauses when 30 seconds are up so you know when to move on to the next section.It’s been worth every penny and has helped me up my nightly dental routine. It’s paired perfectly with my Sonicare toothbrush.

After a dental exam, this was recommended to assist with Oral Hygiene, Thinking of the long term cost and expenses associated with poor oral maintenance, I set out to get one right away.

With a partner that would forget to floss for a long duration, from having a device so easy to use / clean and effective, I can't recommend going without a water-pick. it's been less then a week and even my tarter buildup is recessing, meaning less dental bills.

It's fun, enjoyable and easy to make a habit with.

I also have a travel size - much better for travel - but this is best for a leave it at home on a counter design

Instead of the typical travel models, if you need a water flosser for travel, I recommend the rechargeable Panasonic Ion model. It's a little larger than a handheld, but still very very compact, and much better performing. It is equivalent performance to this cheaper, bulkier Aquarius model that needs to be plugged in to use.

This Aquarius has plenty of power, lots of different tips - probably more than you will ever need

I have found the waterpik water flossers to be more durable than their Panasonic competition

We bought some water flossers after daughter got braces... now the whole family uses them

In the past when I would ask dentists if water flossers improve upon regular flossing or can be used instead of regular floss - they would always be uncomfortable, non-commital, and vague with their answers....

For everyone in our family, after using these for a while, when it came time for our regular dental cleaning, the dental hygienist (DH) remarked how exceptionally well maintained our teeth were with virtually no plaque

When I replied that we were now using water flossers the DH admitted that they are not allowed to say water flossers improve your dental hygiene..... I didn't press on why... but maybe it is a restriction imposed by their dental association?

That said - you have to use them properly. My daughter was using this with the tip designed for braces. She had great hygiene from the biting surface of her teeth to the braces, but the other half of her teeth, between the gums and braces had lots of plaque. The waterpik is not to blame, my daughter's sloppy hygiene was. She has now been told she has to focus on the entire surfaces of her teeth. No matter how good the tool, you still have to use it properly.

If you don't yet have a quality water flosser - get one! The countertop models are powerful enough, if you take care between your teeth to dislodge even stuck pieces of meat, and other things that tend to get caught between teeth. I used to check afterwards with regular floss - and found that handheld less powerful battery travel models, with smaller reservoirs, did less well with food particles wedged between teeth.

The other bonus here, is that like the advertising says, the DH confirmed it's also great for the health of your gums!

In short I now consider a quality water flosser, together with a good tongue scrape, as essential tools for the best possible daily dental hygiene at home.

If you want to splurge put a little mouthwash into the water in the flosser. Your mouth will feel every bit as clean as if you just came from the dentist !

My dentist recommended a Waterpik. I wanted something at a good starting price point, and chose this. I had initially thought about getting a hand-held one for in the shower (it’s a bit of an art not getting water everywhere in the beginning!), but am glad I didn’t. What I have found out is that you go through a fair bit of water if you give each side of your teeth a thorough cleaning (it has 30 second prompts, which is very helpful). This machine is not too large a footprint (I have it on the side of my countertop) and I normally use up about 80% of the water each cleaning. A handheld has a MUCH smaller reservoir. I simply fill up the reservoir when I’m done, so it’s ready for my husband to use.

So far the coiled tubing is going back into the holder easily. I also really like that there are various levels of “water strength” you can choose, as each person is different. Also nice is that the handheld unit has a rotating function, so you can twist it to get your flossing heads into a better position (e.g., when trying to reach your upper back teeth) and not have to contort your arm! It also comes with various “flossing” heads (two basic, so great for a couple) as well as ones for braces, etc. Another smart thing is you can turn the power on for the unit, but there is a separate power mode for the handle, so you can first get it into place in your mouth before you flip the switch and the water starts flowing.

Beware that it is fairly noisy. I wouldn’t turn it on late at night if you have an ensuite bathroom and someone asleep in the bedroom! Also the box showed that the lid had spaces on the underside to store two flossing heads, but that wasn’t the case for the machine. (We just keep the heads in the drawer, and actually think it’s more hygienic to not have two people’s flossing heads near the water reservoir.) Everything else was as promised.

So far it is working well, and it is very helpful at getting things like piece of popcorn or other things out from between your teeth before you floss.
