Product Description

The highly anticipated conclusion to the USA Today bestselling Story of Us series.

With Liam’s fate no longer in the balance, Rory and Houston are poised on the precipice of a life-altering decision. When Rory’s father arrives in California to comfort Rory and make amends, Houston finds the decision becomes much easier to make.

When Houston suggests they take a break Rory thinks he must be joking. But he’s not. And his timing couldn’t be worse.

With Houston and Rory vowing to keep their new friendship strictly outside of the bedroom, their friends and family seize the opportunity to draw out the torture and surprises. Ensuring that Houston and Rory’s story has an ending they’ll never forget.

Author's Note: This is the final book in the series. No more cliffhangers. This is essentially two books in one: the final installment in the series and a novella-length epilogue. Also note, this series is not recommended for readers under the age of 18 due to strong language, violence, sexual content, and adult situations.

About the Author

This was the perfect ending to the series, as usual Cassia has written an amazing story that wraps up all loose ends and ties it all together in a nice neat bow, even throwing in a few heart stopping moments just to make sure you are still paying attention.
As per my review from the first book, Hallie is still my favourite and this book only made me love her even more.
Rory and Houston, not only grow as a couple but individually they become better people and together they can conquer anything
I cannot wait to see what Cassia releases next

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 out of 5 I-HOPE-IT-NEVER-ENDS stars!!! Aug. 20 2015

“Real life is messy. People hurt each other, even when they love each other. All you can do is deal with it.”

*cue standing ovation*

WOW! Just wow!!! Cassia, I’m in awe! The Way We Rise (Book #3 of The Story of Us series) is the perfect conclusion to such a phenomenal trilogy! What a beautiful ending with an epic, mother of all epilogues! You never cease to amaze me time after time!

Secrets will be revealed and then some! Can Rory and Houston’s relationship handle the truth and its repercussions? This heartfelt and emotional read is about impermanence, acceptance, friendship, hope, love and happy beginnings. I cried, laughed, swooned, cried even more and my heart skipped a beat at a particular scene which nearly killed me! (Side note: Cassia, how could you?! Some of us have weak hearts! LOL!)

“You see, in real life, there are no happy endings, because real life, real love, has no ending.”

Fret not! We will find out what happens to all of our favorite characters (and Tessa…) that we have grown so attached to over the last two books. That’s the magic of Cassia’s masterful storytelling — she keeps it real by creating well-developed characters, realistic plots, and most importantly, the life lessons imparted will resonate with every reader. She is truly an amazing author and I love this book and series tremendously!

The Story of Us series will stay with me for a very long time to come and I’ll always hold these quotes close to my heart.

“You can’t erase love.”

“No friendship, no love.”

Thank you, Cassia, for yet another unforgettable love story! ♥

3.0 out of 5 stars Always good writing, but this story is very juvenile w/unlikeable characters. Aug. 28 2015

Writing is good. Typically I've really enjoyed this author. As others have said, the problem is that the character's are just so unlikeable! These characters do everything that just make you cringe. The heroine is weak, dependent, sorry for everything that isn't her fault, and not sorry for the rather stupid mistakes she makes over and over and over again. The "hero" is shallow, stereotypically male, stereotypes women, makes completely unforgivable mistakes, and it is not believable that he loves the heroine in any way. The best friend has some fun dialogue, but is a TERRIBLE friend for pushing these two dysfunctional and immature people together. No one seems to grow. The drama and tension is the story seems so manufactured. The parent story development might be appropriate if the protagonists were teenagers, but they're not!

There's sex, though, but nothing original or that seems to relate to the individuality of the characters at all. The trilogy is drawn out painfully. They're together, they're not. Lies, betrayal. Round and round again. The drama is senseless and no one seems to grow up. Seriously, the guy is a perfect description of a conniving douchebag, yet he's better than the "villain"? The girl is a depiction of all that is wrong with how women are seen and stereotyped.

5.0 out of 5 stars The conclusion that made this journey worth it and more. Aug. 14 2015
By mjlovestoread - Published on
Format: Paperback
I should have known Cassia Leo wouldn't let me down. The Way We Rise, book 3 and the conclusion to Houston and Rory's story, was the absolute perfect way to finish this series. I have to admit I was put through the wringer with these two more than once throughout their difficult journey. Houston and Rory have faced so many bumps, so many detours, could they truly find their way back to each other? I had to put my complete faith in the author and let's just say at times that didn't seem to be enough.

What I loved most about this book was the continuing deep development of the characters. We get to watch as Houston, Rory, Kenny, Ava, Patricia, James and even Skippy(!) move ahead with their lives, despite all the tragedy and disappointment that has befallen them. With the thread of Hallie both holding them together and still sometimes keeping them apart, it was almost as if they all experienced a rebirth of sorts. Demons start to be exorcised and truths start the healing process for all of them. The horrific scene that ended The Way We Break is the starting point for this book, and it is almost a miracle that Houston and Rory even have a chance anymore. But the author masterfully lets her characters take their time and thoughtfully figure out exactly what they want. Gone somewhat is the rush to judgement that had befallen them before which was a true joy to see.

The love that started with an 11 year-old having a crush on her best friend's brother, has seen more ups and downs then was ever thought possible. But the deep-seeded affection between Houston and Rory never wavers. I found myself smiling more than I thought and oh my goodness, laughing out loud at one of the best epilogues I've ever read. These characters seem to find the right direction this time around yet only time will tell if it will all pay off in the end. Being kept guessing is never a bad thing in my opinion. It just makes you want to keep going until the very last words are read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the entire series. It is a love story that will break your heart more than once, give you some heartwarming moments and keep you riveted from beginning to end.

Highly recommended and a solid 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series!!! Aug. 14 2015

I freaking LOVE this series so much!!! This one didn't disappoint. I was so excited to review this book and hear the ending to Houston and Rory's story. What a great ending it was!!! Houston is such a wonderful man who would and does anything for Rory to make her happy and make her life better. Best epilogue ever!!!! Although the mini heart attack I had at the end was a doozie. Their story had so much heart ache and disappointing moments but in the end it all wrapped up into something extremely beautiful. I will miss these characters so much and hope that some day down the road we get a novella or spinoff series with more Rory and Houston in the future. Fantastic job!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars no love. Houston Oct. 8 2015

No friendship, no love.

Houston, we have closure. Get it?

They're back, they're better than ever, and they're just friends. Rory and Houston have so much to deal with, to put behind them, and to move forward in their own personal lives. Liam is out of the picture, Tessa isn't messing with Houston anymore, Rory's dad is making amends, and yet Rory and Houston don't know how to have a relationship and still have all this baggage. Rory's book is gone and she's lost without it, floating along in life, but Rory's dad has a plan. His amends involve the creation of Hallie's Hope, a nonprofit to help others dealing with the same situation. Rory agrees to head up the foundation, especially after learning even more about Hallie's struggles in life. All the family and friends of Houston and Rory team up to bring them together, to help them along the way of dealing with their past, planning futures, and hopefully a happily ever after.

I cannot tell you how hard it was to put this book down when I finished it. Houston is my new book boyfriend, how can you say no to this man? The friendship between Houston and Rory is tantalizing, you're waiting for them to lose control, to fall back into the same pattern. Instead, they talk, they learn from each other, they grow, and in due time, they come together. Their relationship has been my favorite from the start of The Way We Fall. They're meant to be. There are a lot more laughs in this book than the previous two, the air seems lighter and the words less heavy. While all the characters deal with their individual parts in the massive puzzle there are moments of sadness, despair, anger, and hurt, but it all works out in the end. The ending, of course, is my favorite. How everyone comes together to work together for one cause, to look at the past in a positive light, it's just heartwarming. Then Cassia Leo delivers this beautiful epilogue that closes out the story in the best way possible. I can't even.

Unfortunately, the switching characters POV adds up to more than two. It's past, present, Rory, Houston, Patricia, etc. That got so confusing for me. It really made the story make more sense, but it was easy to forget who I was reading, especially when the present/past switched in the middle of a character's POV. At some points, the secrets get overwhelming, it's hard to keep finding out more bad news. It works out in the end, I promise you, hang tight for the good.

You won't want to put this series down when you start it and you'll be totally happy you read it once you get to The Way We Rise. Everything comes full circle and it's all meant to be.
