About the Author

Melissa Joulwan is the author of the best-selling Well Fed cookbook series and the award-winning blog www.MelJoulwan.com, where she writes about her triumphs and failures in the gym, in the kitchen, and in life. Her newest cookbook is Well Fed Weeknights: Complete Paleo Meals in 45 Minutes Or Less (November 1, 2016).

After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and food as the enemy, Melissa found the paleo diet in 2009 and has been happily following it ever since. That year, she also underwent a thyroidectomy. In the aftermath of the surgery and recovery, she became particularly interested in how diet affects hormones, body composition, mood, and motivation. These days, Melissa’s workouts are just as likely to include yoga and meditation as lifting heavy things and sprinting to stay ahead of the stopwatch.

Well Fed 2 was named one of the best books of 2013 by Amazon.com and was a Washington Post best seller. Her first cookbook Well Fed appeared on the Wall Street Journal best sellers list, and she’s the author of the recipes in the New York Times bestselling book It Starts With Food by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig. She writes a column for Paleo Magazine and her recipes have been featured in print in Low Sugar Living, Inspire Health, and Where Women Cook, and online at Buzzfeed.com, FoodNetwork.com, Nylon.com, PopSugar.com, and Men’s Journal. She has been a featured chef for U.S. Wellness Meats and Lava Lake Lamb, as well as an instructor at Whole Foods.

This is really my go-to cook book! If you are thinking about going paleo/primal (or have been for a while)this is an excellent start to your collection. The book itself is visually fun and has tonnes of great tips and tricks to be successful even for a beginner. It is obviously written with intention and a love for food and eating. Mellissa shares part of her personal life in the intro of the book that really helped me change my relationship with food. I was at a point where the thought of cooking was so....impersonal. A task/chore that had to be done. This book helped me appreciate the value and intimacy of food really, of providing quality, delicious meals for my husband and myself. It has taught me much more than just how to make 'the best chicken you will ever have'! and that I really do love to cook. This book has a home on my cutting board beside my spice rack not in the cupboard with the rest of the books. I use it everyday, and it was definately the best few dollars I have spent in a while. The bonus to refering to this book daily for me??? Knowing each time I choose something to make from it I will be successful because the recipies are clear and flexible. I cannot say enough FAB things about this book....so we are clear this is NOT a paid endorsement...the scotch egg recipie is payment enough =)!!

I've purchased a number of Paleo cookbooks, and this one is very good. The recipes are very good, and some of them are quite unique. If you are a "foodie" and don't want the same ol' standard Paleo recipes, you will really appreciate this book. That being said, some of the recipes are very complex, and require either a tonne of different ingredients and/or spices (some of which aren't common to the "non-chef"...), or a lot of preparation or cooking time. Please note that that is not a knock on the recipes included, rather just a "heads-up" for those that are looking for quick and easy recipes. The Paleo Mayo recipe in this book alone is worth the price! Overall, I really enjoyed this cookbook.

I have has this cookbook for a less than a month. Except for bacon and egg nights I have used it for every main meal since I got it. I love it. Haven't made anything my husband and myself haven't liked!
I would rate this as one of the top cookbooks I ever bought!

This book is by far the best one I've found for paleo recipes. Unlike many books cashing in on the paleo trend, a lot of thought has obviously gone into its content and design. The book is professional and user-friendly, with huge pictures and well laid out directions, tips, and other information. Most importantly, the recipes are excellent. They are clear, accurate, and don't require tons of obscure ingredients. And they produce delicious results. I've had the book since it came out and have been dipping into it regularly ever since. The yummy and easy chocolate chili has become a year-round standby. I have been disappointed only once (the jicama "potato" salad) and given the consistent excellence of the other recipes, I'm prepared to blame myself for that.

If you already eat paleo, or want to try and give it the best shot possible, this is a must-have book.

I realized after making some of the recipes from Well Fed that my previous culinary attemps were sorely lacking. Melissa gave my kitchen new life! Every recipe that I have made so far has been absolutely incredible! From simple salads to flavourful main courses this book is akin to my new kitchen bible!

All recipes are simple to follow, ingredients are not hard to find and the end products have become regular items in our meal rotation. I have been participating in a Whole30 (It starts with food - Melissa & Dallas Hartwig) and these recipes have made me realize just how delicious REAL food can be! With this book in my arsenal why would I ever go back to flavourless, processed garbage!

I can't wait for Well Fed 2! I would recommend this book to anyone looking to change things up in the kitchen and experience a whole new world of food.

I was so excited to receive this cookbook, and it didn't let me down! It is small, well written, fun and belongs in the kitchens of people who love to eat! I haven't come across many cookbooks that actually make you want to cook all the recipes, but this one did just that. Within the first week I cooked 15 of the recipes, and 14 of the 15 were out-of-this-world good (I am pretty sure the one that didn't work was operator error). If you are thinking of buying this little book, DO, you will not be sorry that you did! Also, this would be a great little gift for anyone one who has a "foodie" as a friend or family member, the pictures are enough to make you lick that page!

So far tried the Pad Thai and Rogan Josh. Both excellent and pretty easy. Most ingredients are available at supermarket but I did have to go to a spice shop and health food store for some items. I'm excited to try more recipes.

Hands down, the BEST cookbook I own. Paleo or otherwise.

This book is about FOOD and how to love it and eat it unabashedly and make each meal your own. The recipes are incredibly delicious, filling, healthy, and compliant.

Mel gives warm insight into her childhood and how her family instilled the love of experimenting by virtue of trusting ones heart and taste buds.

Simply cannot wait for volume two coming this fall

PS: I have the hard copy and TWO e-versions of this book. THAT is how much I love it.
