HASH(0x9f219204) out of 5 stars An excellent free summary of EPUB 3 June 19 2012
By Thad McIlroy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
There's nothing else online that approaches the quality of the information in this brief book. The subject is inherently technical, but Matt Garrish does an excellent job simplifying without compromising accuracy. The book is a quick and very enjoyable read: every publisher (including self publishers) need to understand EPUB 3.

Is the other reviewer complaining that he's had better free ebooks? What an odd assertion. I know he hasn't had better free ebooks on the subject of the EPUB 3 specification, as this is the only one. O'Reilly is performing a much-appreciated public service making this book free (along with several others: check the O'Reilly site).

HASH(0x9f7e6668) out of 5 stars Not an introduction May 23 2014
By Publius - Published on Amazon.com

Rather it is an overview. I have been interested in ebooks but have never investigated the technology. This book describes what is in a .epub file, a bit about how it works. The emphasis is on how epub 3 differs from earlier versions and gives an exciting (in a geeky sort of way) insight into the future of epub 3 and electronic media.
If you want to learn how to use it... you will need to look farther.

HASH(0x9cdaa714) out of 5 stars Excellent technical resource... April 10 2013
By Leland D. Benton - Published on Amazon.com

I am stunned at the other reviews of this book because this book offers excellent technical information and is written for the average person to get a really good understanding of EPUB 3. One of the many hats I wear as a publisher is writing software that makes authorship easier. Here is a book designed to make an author's formatting job easier and is well worth the investment.

HASH(0xb6aae45c) out of 5 stars Informative March 11 2014

Thank you Mr. Garrish for making that information available in Kindle format. The EPub3 standard has many exciting features that I am sure we will be seeing more of over time. Multimedia overlays and adaptive content are the two I find the most intriguing. The do-it-once philosophy of EPub3 is very attractive.

HASH(0x9cdaaaa4) out of 5 stars Not worth the time. July 18 2013

I thought I'd expand my awareness of technologies I didn't know about when I saw these "What Is" thingamabobs come up on my Kindle app. I downloaded some and was completely underwhelmed. While the material was informative, for the trouble, I would rather just use Wikipedia. Besides, firing up my Kindle app on the android takes over a minute - so I only open it for serious reading. I guess if you don't have a device with WiFi or internet, maybe these things are useful, but when I have the other options, I've decided against trying more of these type of booklets out.
