This inexpensive little reference book is very well written and will be of interest to all who care for snakes. As a new snake owner I found lots of very important information, however this book would also be helpful to long-time snake owners or to take along to a vet who may not be all that familiar with snake illnesses and diseases. At the back is a reference chart outlining what to do when you have a snake that is ill along with suggestions for medications and their dosages by weight. Excellent photographs throughout thoroughly illustrate the information.

There are so many things that can go wrong while owning a snake and with this book you have a very good chance finding out what the problem is.It gives clear concise instructions on what to do of the various problems that can arise.Most things you can correct yourself and those you can't the author advises you to see a veterinarian which the author is himself.This book has more than 190 pages and covers a lot of ground and has many useful tips on general snake care.I found it quite useful and I have kept snakes for over 59 years.

HASH(0x9f9f2e28) out of 5 stars Great resource... March 26 2014

...from a great vet and excellent herpetologist. John Rossi is THE herp vet of the Southeast, and certainly in Florida. I've had the good fortune of living near his practice in Jacksonville, FL and he's always helpful.

It has an amazing amount of information on diseases in snakes and how to prevent common problems that create diseases and infections when keeping snakes in captivity.
HASH(0x9f9f2dec) out of 5 stars A Must-Have for the Snake Keeper Feb. 18 2013
By Nicole Thompson-Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Any and all snake keepers should have "What's Wrong with My Snake (Advanced Vivarium Systems)" in their personal library. The author covers an extremely broad range of conditions and symptoms potentially facing snake keepers. The text is well indexed; there are plenty of relevant, useful photos; and there are many practical suggestions for disease prevention. Would not be without this text! Just be careful not to read it too much--you could easily "over-diagnose" your snakes. The author's advice is practical, well-founded, and critical to the keeping of snakes. A GREAT reference book. {BTW, I have decades of experience with reptiles and a substantial Herp library, so I am speaking from some experience.}
HASH(0x9f9f40fc) out of 5 stars Snake Health May 2 2013
By Rachel Higgins - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book covered in depth all information a snake keeper would need on health problems and had very good suggestions on solving various problems. It also had good suggestions on preventative check-ups (such as checking for bacteria overgrowth when the snake is stressed to prevent a disease from developing). It was written in friendly, non-veterinarian terms while still being professional and descriptive of problems, causes and solutions.

it doesn't matter what snake you have, you MUST get this book. it tells you everything you need to know about symptoms and treatments. it has pictures of many of the issues that may arise, and very detailed descriptions. it has vet-level info as well, such as some information about medication for snakes in the back, which can be helpful for the vet you take your pet to. i cannot suggest this book enough. if you own a snake, buy it now.
