It's a good read. Although I don't necessarily agree with everything in this book I do agree with a lot. I had given up all grain for about 18 months and myself didn't drop a pound because of it and I would like to lose about 10 to 15 lbs. But that's not why I did it. I limit grain from my diet because of the chemicals and the carb value. I would much rather get my carbs from vegetables. I also have Fibro and osteoarthritis. I know that nowadays there are chemicals and fillers widely used and accepted as OK. Maybe that's why people are so sick and overweight. Although not possible for everything, I try eat out of my garden and hunt what I can. When the freezer and jars are empty then I go to the store for that.

This is an excellent book, and diet... I have been eating no wheat for the past month because of this book and I feel 100% amazing.
The bloating and digestive issues that used to plague me are completely gone. My skin is glowing. I have more energy. And I have lost my "wheat belly."
When you embark on a wheat free diet, you quickly realize that almost everything we eat contains gluten. So it has been a big adjustment trying to find foods I can eat. But it's all worth it when you see the results. I am eating healthier and less processed foods. If you are skeptical, the least you can do is give it a try for a couple of weeks. I am confident you will notice a huge difference. Thanks to author for putting this important information out there.

The book is worth reading, however after reading it, I did my best to omit as many wheat containing foods for four months. I gave it 5 stars, because I think others should read it for themselves, and give it a try. I only lost 2 pounds of weight. I agree with quite a bit of what the author says, but look around the community, and the majority of people I see with huge bellys seem to consume a lot of alcoholic beverages . I passed the book on to a friend, and I haven't heard her opinion yet. While omitting wheat from my diet, I did feel more energetic, but I think that is because I omitted many carbohydrate foods at the same time, like breads and other baked goods.

Disclaimer: I am an author, however I do not know Dr. Davis personally. This review is based on my own experiences.

I've read most of the popular diet books written over the last 40 years. Some were very good and others led me in the wrong direction, such as the low fat books of the 80's that helped trigger the obesity and diabetes epidemic we see today. Wheat Belly, written in a very easy to understand manner and sprinkled with humour throughout, takes the position that wheat is chiefly responsible for these and other maladies. I had no idea that wheat, modified from what it was 50 years ago, is not completely broken down by the body and that the peptides produced actually cross the blood brain barrier like an opiate drug would, causing addiction and false food cravings. At first I found it difficult to accept. Then I tried it and lost 50 pounds in 6 months, without counting calories, by adopting a Mediterranean style of diet without the wheat. My cravings disappeared and so did the brain fog. Within 2 or 3 weeks my diabetes numbers were vastly improved and are now in the normal range. I found through taking my glucose readings after meals in isolated trials that bread or cereal, whether it is whole grain or not, spikes my blood sugar readings like nothing else, not even a candy bar. It isn't just the gluten, but the wheat itself. Why diabetics are told by their nutritionists to eat more "healthy whole grains" is a mystery to me. It seems to only aggravate the condition. The book cautions about falling for the allure of gluten free products that are just made of junk carbohydrates like potato starch and do just as much damage as wheat. Dr. Davis states that there is no such thing as "healthy whole grains" and based on my own experiences, I believe he is right.

It was a very informative book and discusses how eating wheat causes blood sugars to rise and how it has genetically changed in 50 years. I thought over the years that I may have an addiction to bread because once I started eating it I could not stop. So went on a special diet of no carbs only protein, vegetables and fruit. When I went to a Doctor that deals with women's hormones he did blood work found I have Hashimotos thyroiditis and stated to stay off all wheat and grains. So I have been off all wheat products for about 10 months and now it doesn't bother me, but I know if I eat once piece of bread I'll continue on and eat the whole loaf. Makes you think twice before eating anything.

I am overweight and have been all of my 61 years. Been there, done that. Every time I tried to lose weight I failed and I realized a couple of years ago that my biggest problem was trying to deal with cravings. I actually discussed this with my family doctor 18 months ago - said I would like to go to a place for 6 months and be controlled by others in order to beat this weight issue.

Back in January my daughter-in-law had to go gluten free for medical reasons. As the matriarch in the family, the one who provided celebratory meals and Christmas baking, I read everything I could get my hands on concerning this whole gluten thing and that is how I found Wheat Belly.

As I read the book I first felt skeptical - another 'diet' book. And then I got further into it. I began to feel hope again. In mid September I decided to give it a go and eliminate wheat. I know that others have gone further with also eliminating grains as well but I wanted to try just the wheat thing.

Within a week I had been relieved of the insatiable cravings that had haunted me since the first time I dieted at age 15. I felt calm. And happy. As time went on I read up on the glycemic index and I try to watch for both gluten and those food items that spike the blood sugar. I've lost a bit of weight without even trying - 12 pounds - and if I worked harder at it I am sure I could lose all that I need to. But for now, leading up to Christmas, I will be happy just to enjoy the freedom from cravings that invariably led me to gain weight EVERY Christmas season. I've started my Christmas baking and so far I look at the finished product like it's cardboard. It has no effect on me at all.
