Dr. Sedler has written this book to help the reader to know times when he should speak, and times when he should not. The title of the book fits very well, as the book is practical in its wisdom of when to speak up and when to shut up.

As I started the book, I found it a little formulaic, but as I continued to read the practical simplicity was excellent and applicable. There was much that I wished I had read and applied in my own life and ministry in the last few years. This book would have changed the outcome of some situations I have been through where I spoke and shouldn't have, and didn't speak and should have. I hope to apply it as I move forward in ministry.

The book is well written, with excellent illustrations that held my attention throughout.

This is a book that those in leadership should read, especially if they are dealing with conflict. It should be a must read for every pastor who is entering into ministry to learn how to build a team around them in their pursuit of personal excellence, and to learn when to speak and when not to.

Well worth the read, simple and very practical.

If you have ever looked back to a moment where you opened your big fat mouth and you now regret it, then this is the book for you. If you ever looked back and remembered your stand of silence when a voice was clearly needed, then this is also the book for you. In truth, Dr. Michael D. Sedler takes his experience as a counsellor very seriously and communicates valuable Christian truths for all people in all circumstances. I have never read a book that is so jam-packed with wisdom (other than the Bible) and with so many easy applicational scenarios like When to Speak Up & When To Shut Up.

I highly recommend this book to any individual whether they’re a casual reader, student or a prominent speaker, it’s down your alley of facilitating great open communication. For those unfamiliar with Dr. Sedler, he is a University professor, ministers to different churches, and provides consultation services to both schools and businesses. What a marvelous book, it’s got a four stars out of five on my book shelf.

I have almost finished reading this book "When to speak up and when to shut up", it is a very positive and excellent book with great examples! I have already ordered his second book "Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism" I have been looking for a book that could help me to understand more and learn to have more control of myself...I won't say that it saved my life like so many say, but I will say that it has changed my perspective of how I hold my tongue and knowing WHY to hold my tongue or when to speak up, which is a great way to learn if we want to advance.

We rarely hear of an author admitting to making errors but Dr Sedler is a very down to earth person who gives us examples of his errors along with examples from the Bible WITHOUT being too Catholique about it, something I really appreciated about this book..the examples are very straightforward, no beating around the bushes to understand what he means or how to go about bettering ourselves.

There are so many pages that you can highlight and keep a tag on the pages in order to go back and re-read the parts that you need the most help on. One thing for sure, it is a very easy read; but with precious books like this, you don't want to read it just once; you want to absorb the information and re-read it a couple of times, something that is soooo easy with this book.

I am quite amazed that there are no other comments on this book; however if you do look at the comments of his other book "Stop the Runaway Conversation: Take Control Over Gossip and Criticism", you will see for yourselves that the people have read both books already and find like me that this author is the real deal! I don't need any other of my I don't know how many books that I purchased to try to better myself...
