Brye Morgeaux is a half-witch, half-warlock and she’s been handed an ultimatum - join the warlock clan or watch her family die in this thrilling paranormal romance.

Josh Copeland has been waiting for Brye to see him as something more than a friend and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the story as Brye searches inside herself and finds something darker than she imagined and Josh realizes that the woman he loves may be her own worst enemy. The chemistry between Josh and Brye smolders from every page but so does a lot of past emotional baggage and that’s not taking into account all the turmoil that Brye is facing now which she can’t exactly explain to Josh. The characters are strong, bewitching and grab the reader’s attention and capture the heart while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.

The Warlocks aren’t done with the Morgeaux sisters and one in particular has focused his attention on Brye causing lots of emotional distress and excitement as he tries to force Brye into joining his clan. Tension builds throughout the story in several different areas besides the dangerous one as the sisters need to learn how use their gifts and Josh knows that Brye is hiding something. Well written scenes and details bring the story to life making it easy for the reader to become completely immersed in the story while the intriguing events ensure that there is never a dull moment.

Once again, the fascinating Morgeaux sisters ensnared me in their web of intrigue, magic, magical battles and romance with some interesting and of course the New Orleans setting makes the perfect backdrop for this thrilling series. Note: You could read this as a standalone story but you would enjoy it more if you read the series in sequence as this one takes up where the first one left off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Paranormal Romance Sept. 6 2015

I received an ARC of this book from the publishers via Inkslinger PR in exchange for my honest review.

Brye is waging an inner war in the aftermath of a brutal warlock attack. Always defined by her beauty, she struggles to deal with her disfigurement and she feels lost and unsure of herself. Embarking on a road to self-discovery, she reconnects with her old friend and childhood crush, Josh. Both have harbored romantic feelings for the other though they are reluctant to admit it for fear of being hurt. Timing and circumstances have kept them apart thus far.

I must confess that I didn't read the first book in this series because I didn't actually realize it was a second installment. However, it wasn't an issue in terms of the story because the author did a fantastic job of backfilling essential elements and clearly explaining key plot points and I never felt confused or that I missed out on anything important. So you could read this as a stand-alone read. That said, I may have been more invested in the characters if I had read the first book. I really liked Storm and Nate and I'll most likely pick up a copy of the first book now to see how their relationship developed.

I liked the fantasy world that the author created and I loved all the paranormal elements - witches and warlocks, familiars, spells, special gifts etc. There was a strong good vs. evil theme and plenty of suspense and intrigue. In the main it was fast paced and there was a decent amount of action mixed in with the romance, exactly as I like it.

While I liked Brye and Josh as a couple, for me the relationship lacked depth. I find this a lot with books of a shorter length - there isn't enough time to allow the reader to form a genuine emotional connection with the characters, and that is what I felt with this book. Brye also goes through a significant metamorphosis and it just happened too quickly to be believable. A few more chapters to flesh this out would have been beneficial in my opinion.

At times, some of the dialogue felt stiff and unnatural though in the main the writing is decent.

In summary: I enjoyed this book though I wasn't blown away by it. If you are a fan of paranormal romance you should check it out. Thank you to the author, publisher, and PR company for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Actual rating 3.5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars HLB Reviews His Wicked Desire Aug. 26 2015
By Home. Love. Books. - Published on Amazon.com

I have to say I am really glad that I have been splitting my time more evenly between romance and urban fantasy books, I have this bad habit of getting roped into one genre and sticking with it for a long period, but thankfully not anymore. I have always loved urban fantasy, and one of my favorite magical types is the witch, so when I saw a book that revolved around witches I knew I wanted to check it out. This is the second book in the series, and while yes you can read it as a standalone (like I did) I think it would be a lot better if you read the first book first, I felt like I was missing out on some bigger events and some of the relationships between the characters by not having read the first book first.

So first off I am going to start with Brye. When the book starts she is dealing with some serious events that just happened recently (I'm assuming in the first book), she was kidnapped and seriously scarred by the attack. Not just her face is scarred though, she really been emotionally scarred by it all as well. She went from being like the popular beautiful type to being ridiculed by teenagers in a department store and feeling like everything in her life from before the attack just wasn't worth it anymore. I felt so bad for her, especially in the beginning. I mean she's clearly dealing with some really heavy things. She struggles with her magic, especially when she realizes she might have influence over people. I think what I liked about Brye is she wants so much to be better, to be good, and as a reader you just can't help but want good things for her. I also liked watching her develop throughout the book, especially in regards to excepting who she is and being a hybrid Witch/Warlock.

Now for Josh. Oh sweet Josh. I liked him for the most part. It's clear from the beginning that the two of them clearly have feelings for each other but thanks to some events way in their past they have entered into this kind of antagonistic relationship. I honestly can say I didn't particularly love Josh in the beginning, he seemed too pushy to me. Especially since he is well aware that Brye is dealing with the aftermath of a very serious attack, it just felt like his attitude towards her was too much. But as the book progressed I started to like the two of them together a lot, plus they had really great chemistry together.

Ultimately I have to say my biggest issue with the book is the pacing. I felt like things moved so fast, like 0 to 60 in under 30 seconds. And it was in all aspects of the book, the relationship building between Josh and Brye, the storyline with Brye and her Warlock stalker/attacker. I mean it all moved so fast that you barely had time to catch your breath, and I think especially in the Warlock storyline it dulled the impact of events because they all happened so quick. But at the end of the day, I did enjoy the book, and I did like the characters. So if you are like me and love yourself some urban fantasy witches, then you should really consider checking out this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanted again Sept. 11 2015

I was more than tickled pink to get to continue on with this series with the next sister. since I had already found this series to be fascinating I was anxious to see what was going to happen next. Brye has already gone up against one bad warlock with a scar to show for it with him having no intentions of leaving her in peace. She has something he wants her. She is rare with being half and half but she thinks she must protect everyone while forgetting herself. good thing she has Josh on her side who wants to protect her from top to bottom but there is one catch he is human. They do have a history and when he tricks her their dance will begin in earnest. Her time is limited plus they must learn to develop so they will be better to go up against the warlocks once encountered again. My oh my so much to keep you face glued with the suspense of it all. Some think she will turn but they do not know her very well. Josh will also be in for a rude awakening that had me spitting out while drinking with some of his comments that were bone ticklers. Josh did not disappoint though he does stand by the one he loves. More history and reasons are revealed to make this one drama filled romance that has strong support in story to keep a reader mesmerized to it. As I continued on with this savoring each bit was greatly disappointed when I reached the last page but more will come for sure and now I wait.
