Fall in love with a magical romance

Witches inhabit our world, organized in covens and hiding behind a shroud of secrecy—the Veil.

Skye’s London coven sends her to Seattle’s Greenwood High to find the Singularity, an unusually gifted witch who may break the Veil and trigger a dangerous new era of witch-hunting. Things get complicated when Skye meets a charming new classmate, Drake. Skye’s job becomes even trickier when she clashes with Jane, an intimidating rival witch.

Drake falls for the mysterious Skye, but odd accidents, potion mix-ups, and the occasional brush with death kind of get in the way of romance. Once he discovers Skye is a witch, he goes to war for her, even though his only weapons are a nice set of abs and a sharp sense of humor.

Fighting off wicked Jane and the other dark forces hell-bent on seizing the Singularity's immense power, Skye and Drake will risk everything to save the covens.

Going on a date has never been harder.

With this novel, Bueno sets himself, and his characters, off and running in this fantastic series about magic gone wild. Everything is clearly yet vividly developed. Not only is the storyline itself clearly laid out, but the author uses his brilliant storytelling skills to draw you in without ever letting go. He keeps up a fast pace throughout, without making the reader ever feel rushed or tense.

These characters kill me. They’re so personable, real, and high school that you can’t help but laugh and love them (even if you hate them). Everyone is fully developed, both as an individual and as a member of the story. I love the way that they interact so realistically with each other, even if it isn’t always an easy interaction.

As a whole, this larger than life world draws you in and keeps you coming back for more. Bueno brilliantly combines stereotypical witches with new and innovative ideas to create a world wholly of his own and set his readers up for the trip of a lifetime in this series.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author/publisher/blog tour company in exchange for an honest review.

While it took a few chapters to get into this novel, I found it overall to be a quick and enjoyable read.

The characters seemed very realistic, though I didn't always agree with their choices, and the dialogue flowed well.

Despite some spelling/grammar errors and a handful of exaggerated words (for example, 'soooooo'), it was fairly well written and I wasn't taken out of the story by poor wording.

The overall plot could have used work, taking some scenes into consideration as they did nothing to move things forward and added nothing to the story in general. Also, the magic system was not quite there in terms of clarity. It could have been explored further and made a little more cohesive.

The ending was well done and gave some closure while still leaving an opening for the next book.

This was a great young adult novel. I liked the way it was organized, with alternating chapters told from the hero's viewpoint and from the heroine's. I liked the mystery elements: who is the missing super-witch they're hunting for, and what will happen to that person when he or she is found, and what plans does the antagonist have, and how is the antagonist to be thwarted? There is also a subdued but clear element of humour - after the hero's father goes away on a business trip and all hell breaks loose at home, the hero's comment is, "I don't think my Dad will ever travel without us again!" The romantic element was handled very well, being true to life without having people jump into bed at the drop of a hat. The book was well written, with very few editing errors, good grammar, good word usage, brief descriptions that brought up clear mental pictures, good pacing, good characterization. I really enjoyed it.

a very well developed story with all the elements you want: supernatural powers, witches, action, suspense, romance.
The story is told very well, and keeps you engaged. The book is fairly long and in the middle it felt like it dragged a bit, until the pace picked up. The last quarter of the book left me riveted and looking for the next book in the series

HASH(0xa938418c) out of 5 stars Layers of Wicked Goodness! March 28 2013
By Julie Cassar - Published on

Like a slow brewing, potion of goodness, "Wicked Sense" is a magical concoction of emotion, turmoil, mystery and love that warmed my heart. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of the book for me was how the author managed to have the characters began timid and reserved and then slowly unleashed their personalities and power, as they pulled me into their lives. I grinned, was heart-broken, gasped and laughed out loud as they peeled off layer and layer of mood and depth. What was most impressive to me was how the author managed to capture sweet romance, love and lust in the both the male and female teenage voice...a task not always easily achieved. By alternating between the lead female (Skye) and male (Drake) protagonist's point of view, the reader gets an exceptional look into the lives, moods and thoughts of these characters. The author not only created believable, root-worthy characters, but he managed to wrap them in a tale of love, suspense and mysticism in modern day times, while carefully balancing the unbelievable with the believable. If you didn't believe in magic before, you will after you read this book. I am anxiously awaiting the second book! Excellent, fast-paced read for young adults and adults.

HASH(0xa939b630) out of 5 stars Wickedly Delicious!!!! March 28 2013

I absolutely adored this book! Wicked Sense centers around Skye and her quest to find the Singularity...that's the official plot...the book, however, is so, so much more. For starters, it's told both in the POV of Skye and her love interest, Drake. Since the majority of the books most females read are told through the POV of the girl, I found this very refreshing to walk in the mind of a teenaged boy. Girls are going to love this...especially when they see that a teenaged boy's thoughts are very much like theirs. And Fabio Bueno painted such a vivid picture of a Drake that you couldn't help but fall in love with him. I was beyond excited when I saw this was book one in a series...I'm chomping at the bit for the next one because all hell is going to break loose!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I could not put this book down! The flip-flopping POVs, the perfect sized chapters, the action, the wonderful dialogue, the mystery, the YA sigh-worthy romance -- it all had me addicted from page 1! Why did I wait so long to read this book?

We dive right into a unique world filled with witches and magic. Skye is a new high school student that has caught Drake's eye. Egged on by his friends, he introduces himself and sets in motion a series of events that cannot be undone. Drake's just a good guy who is often overlooked. Skye is a witch sent to find the "singularity" - a witch who will change everything about their world. Together, they make the perfectly "real" high school couple. Throw in some angst, unresolved ex issues, supernatural events, sizzling chemistry, and you've got a romance I fell in love with.

The mystery of "who is the singularity" was really well done. I was second guessing myself the entire way. This wasn't your usual "I figured it out in the first chapter" type YA mysteries. It could've also helped that I was distracted by just how amazing Drake's character was. From dialogue to the warm and fuzzies he created in Skye (and me), he was a rich and developed character. I can't wait to see what's in store for him next!

It takes a lot to get a 5 star rating out of me -- it essentially means that I would re-read this book because it was so enjoyable the first time around. This book met all my expectations and then some. There was no aspect of the book that I felt got shortchanged. It was the kind of book that left me smiling every step of the way (even through the teen angst!).

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The beginning was really interesting.

It tells about a Skye who is a "Sister" on a mission to look for the "Singularity", a powerful witch who is also being searched by foes. She arrived as a transfer student at Greenwood High School wherein she met Drake, friends, and foes. Skye has the power of both the Allure Charm and True Sight Charm which was the reason why she was sent by the "mothers". Skye's and Drake's forms a relationship with the help of their friends and along the way they also face dangers.

It was very interesting to read both Skye and Drake's point of view. I really could connect to these characters and they were very likable from the start especially Drake. Skye's has a strong personality but she also has those teen problems especially insecurity because of her Allure charm. For her she would probably look ugly if it wasn't for that charm. It's also due to ex - boyfriend, Conner.

Now, there's a character I hated the most. Connor is the rare male witch and is one of the mothers' chosen leader. Connor is pretty much a playboy and very conceited. He's power is the Trust Charm and that power speaks for itself. Well, there are other reasons why I hated him and you'll figure it out once you read this book.

I really enjoyed reading Drake's point of view. Drake is very sweet and I really like his personality. Did I mention that he's hot as well? Well, if not, he definitely is. It's nice to know what a guy thinks especially for his age. Drake is lucky that he has good friends who support him despite their teasing moments. He is also supportive of Skye and also a good older brother. His relationship with his sister was in that awkward phase but because he was able to share things with Skye, she was able to help him reconnect with his sister.

The story line was very interesting. It also had its funny moments but what I love most were the sweet moments. Despite it being a series, the ending was good.

I look forward to reading the next book!
