Review

Praise for The Winter Rose:

"If Jennifer Donnelly doesn't watch out, she's going to get a reputation. With the publication of The Winter Rose, she proves that her first fast, fat and fun historical novel--The Tea Rose--wasn't a fluke. She's a master of pacing and plot, with enough high points scattered throughout to keep your pulse racing . . . I read the last third at near-choking speed . . . I imagine you will, too."―Washington Post Book World

Praise for The Winter Rose:

"I loved this book. It is truly seductive, hard to put down, filled with mystery, secret passions, unique locations, and a most engaging heroine . . . She captivates from the first page to the last."―Barbara Taylor Bradford, author of A Woman of Substance and Playing the Game

Praise for The Winter Rose:

"Mix Gangs of New York, Romeo and Juliet, and Oliver Twist, and get a passionate tale propelled by sophisticated plotting, cleverly disguised motives, and intriguingly entangled characters."―Booklist

Praise for The Winter Rose:

"A lush story of epic proportions . . . Donnelly peoples her book with larger-than-life characters whose tragedies and triumphs lift your heart and soul."―Romantic Times Book Review

Well worth the wait. If you are a lover of historical novels, this one has plenty. Set primarily in the prelude to the 1st World War in London, it also takes you to Tibet & the Himalayan Mountains. There are plenty of real people who are on the fringes of the main characters lives but made very believable by the author, you can tell she has done her research. The characters that were in the 1st 2 books are back in this one & it ties up the trilogy very well. There is lots of suspense, spying, high & low society & just enough romance. Well done JD. Looking forward to the next one!

Nice easy read!
San Francisco and the California Gold Rush
English born and bred Miranda Austen and her father leave the tranquility of London life to follow her father's fanciful dream of instant wealth in the California Gold Rush. Miranda's father hires ruggedly handsome Lucas Adams as a guide into the California back country with the false promise of a high salary and vast riches. Though Miranda is a reluctant participant, she soon falls in love with the rough wilderness and discovers her own worth as well as her intense desire for Lucas's fierce passion.
With the death of Miranda's father and no money, Miranda realizes she must return to San Francisco to earn enough money for her fare to England and hopefully back to a placid civilized lifestyle. In the meantime, Lucas realizes what a unique treasure Miranda is and that he can't live without her. Though he has absolutely no desire to be tied down with a wife, Lucas proposes and is turned down as Miranda is adamant against a loveless marriage. Eventually they discover their mutual love, but that road is filled with strife.
This book was an enjoyable easy read.

Loved every minute of each of the three Rose books. The characters were interesting and the plot as intricate enough to keep the reader guessing! I like novels that are tied up in a neat bundle at the end and this one didn't disappoint. I was impressed with the way the author inserted real life and time events and characters to fill out the saga of this family.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author brings the characters to life, the detailing of the locations, etc are amazing, I felt like I was right there in the moment. I have read the trilogy and would recommend the three books to anyone who enjoys being swept away and entertained to the absolute. Thank you Jennifer Donnelly.

I very much enjoyed the three "Wild Rose" Series Books - It was great to follow the family as it grew and experienced life in the UK, America, and then back to their roots in London.
I would recommend it to others who enjoy U.K. history along with a good story line.
