I was a bit apprehensive before buying this product and read the reviews. All the bad reviews seemed like they were using icing/frosting that may be a bit too firm. I only use fresh whipped cream on all my cakes and thought it might work for me. But it doesn't. Agree with everyone else - it's a really cheaply made bad quality product. The inserts keep falling off, and even with an easily mold-able topping such as whipped cream, it did a horrible job, the cake looked rough, not smooth and ugly. I ended up using a plain spatula for a much better effect. I will use binder clips with it the next time as suggested by others and am going to give it only one more chance. Ditch this and buy a cake comb. My research also tells me that most Ateco products are much better quality than Wilton!
There just isnt anything out there that gives you the flexibility of this tool. It probably could have been designed a little better having something that would the pieces in better but people would probably complain it's too hard to get the pieces out after they were done. I have not seen anything else this cheap that can make such a huge difference on how your cakes look.
