1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

I bought the article a while ago and it is impossible to make it work. Chips are sanded and no documentation can be traced.

Works great from about an inch away. Wish I could get 2 inches but can get this to work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not seem to work with ESP8266. Only reads at 2 cm proximity, not 6cm.

I was able to get this reader to work with a USB FTDI seen on the first picture. I was not able to get it to work with the ESP8266 for my house automation project. I think that the board is using VCC (5 Volts) on the uart Tx (serial port - pin 4). The ESP8266 is highly allergic to 5V.

Also I had to have the RFID chip very close (1-2 cm) to the antenna AND also perpendicular to the antenna for the board to read the chip. otherwise it does not decode the RFID chip. I will not be able to use this board to complete my house automation to unlock the cat door. It does not seem to work with the Wemos D1 mini I'm using and it probably has blown the Rx of the ESP8266 because the Tx seem to use VCC and not 3.3V. I've also tried to power the board directly from a 1 Amp USB charger and that did NOT improve the antenna proximity detection. I tried in case the power supplied by the Wemos was limiting power consumption of the reader but that was not the problem.
