I purchased the Airmod Bluetooth adapter for my BOSE QC25's and it was working well until recently. I cannot seem to power up or power down the device consistently. (the on / off button) is not functioning.
What I received back was
I'll be happy to assist you. Is the airmod fully charged?
I would expect that they would have asked a few more questions or at least open up a case for me.. Not really thrilled with their response thus far.
That said, when it was working - it worked well to listen to music....but taking calls was a totally different story. None of my callers could hear me well at all..I had to switch to my handset to resume my calls.
I have a bluetooth USB plugin for my PC and I thought I'd try it out, see if I can use the headphones for gaming or watching movies.
I was stunned by the sound quality I got out of these and even more floored by the improved volume I get in bluetooth mode. Watched Mad Max: Fury Road with the PC sound cranked, then I was able to increase the volume with the headphone volume buttons and it was amazing.
I haven't had them die on me but I'm definitely worried about them dying after 5 hours or forgetting to charge it but so far so good.
The audio itself is quite good, can't seem to tell the difference from wired connection to wireless. Easy to charge with 2 charging cables included, a nice bonus of an extra cable. Battery lasts a very decent amount of time of around 8-9 hours for me, although this will depend on how far away your phone is and is there are walls between the phone and the headset. Poor signal requires both devices to work harder, but it seems to do okay generally speaking. Volume doesn't seem to have much of an impact on battery life.
Cons: Build quality is doesn't reflect the massive premium paid for the product. the plastic feels quite cheap while detail and design are about on par with a dollar store toy. There are rough edges to the design that are quite noticeable upon closer inspection. The body is also quite large and thick enough that it prevents the adapter from blending in with the headset. I expected a lot better build quality for the steep price that is being charged for this. Some other things that could be improved are the startup noise and shutdown noise. Very loud regardless of what the last volume setting was at, and doesn't exactly contribute positively to your experience. The led indicator is also right next to the power button and on the power button, hard to see when you turned on the adapter since your finger naturally covers it.
Overall the audio quality and ease of use are the pros and the poor build quality and design are the cons. Battery life is average, at 8-9 hours. For the price of a QC25 plus this adapter, you could have gotten the QC35 with double the battery life, Bose build quality and built-in wireless.
Here is my update after using this Airmod for almost a month. There are 2 things I don't like.
1. Only the plug that hold the Airmod and the Bose headphone together. I worry that repeated pulling apart for charging would break the Airmod plug. So I don't know how long It will last.
2. The music did get cut out several times when I walked around. I don't know if it is the plug that cause it or what? My other Bluetooth Headphones never cut out the music on me, so for these 2 reasons I will have to give it 3 stars instead.
However -- after only 3-4 months of use, the battery life has dropped from 8 hrs to less than 4. Major bummer to have to stop using them during my regular work day to recharge.
