Looking at reviews of Leitner's books online, specifically here on Amazon, reveals some confusion regarding what this book is in relation to his earlier book, THE ARCHITECTURE OF LUDWIG WITTGENSTEIN, originally published in 1973. These are two different books and this book is designed and written to complement the first one. Leitner explains in the preface that the first book made Wittgenstein's house appear static; this book is an attempt to show the dynamic traits of the house.
This book documents the various openings in the house very effectively. Leitner carefully photographed each opening, showing its various configurations from the same location. Each opening's set of photos is arranged together, often on gatefolds, so that the configurations can be compared. The majority of the photos show the house prior to the changes that were later made.
Another nice inclusion is the reproduction of spreads from Wittgenstein's pocket album. These spreads include historic photos of Wittgenstein, his sister, the house, and its furnishings. These spreads are reproduced so that the album is shown as a complete object on a white background.
Concerning the written component of the book, I did enjoy POETICS more; however, Leitner does discuss traits of the design that aren't discussed in POETICS and vice versa.
