Product Description

Are you tired of over consuming fire wood or paying too much on your energy bills during winter ?
Do you want to stop polluting the planete with inefficient wood stoves ?

Great ! You will learn it all and more in these 4 DVDS ! From the basics of fire science to advance water heating systems.
The centerpiece in this series is the rocket mass heater. Possibly the cleanest and most sustainable way to heat a conventional home.
This started off as an advanced rocket mass heater workshop which quickly sold out. People asked for it to be videoed. So Paul Wheaton, "duke of permaculture", took his video camera and here they are : 4 DVDS !
To make things clear, it's not an Hollywood mega production but key moments of the workshop that will give you invaluable knowledge to tackle your own projects.

DVD 1 is "Fire Science", Ernie and Erica Wisner set stuff on fire in all sorts of wacky ways. This is the foundation for understanding how rocket stoves and rocket mass heaters work.
DVD 2 is "Sneaky Heat". The "rocket" built in this DVD is the result of many experiments, making it one order of magnitude better than any previous one. We used a portable design, something that can be taken apart in under an hour, loaded onto a truck, moved and rebuilt in under an hour.
DVD 3 is "Boom Squish", named after the dangers of alternative hot water. Caleb Larson and Ernie work together to talk about how to do this right. Caleb is a professional hot water installer and is very familiar with the explosive properties of steam, flash point and vapor lock.
DVD 4 is "Hot Rocket", where we prove that few twigs can outperform a propane turkey cooker with a J-tube style rocket stove that is self feeding. This DVD will also have information on home made cook stoves, and several different pocket rocket designs.

I've watched the first 3 DVDs so far. I've learned some good concepts but mostly these just contain general knowledge about wood heating and RMHs. I was hoping for step-by-step construction, or a few designs, or anything that I haven't already seen on the internet for free. Mostly they take a handi-cam to the back of their group classes and then plug their books when it comes to the nitty-gritty stuff. I wouldn't recommend these DVDs although the hosts are pretty interesting characters so it's not without edu-tainment value. If you want to build RMHs I suggest buying a book.

Item shipped on time, but 1 of the 4 DVD's won't play - I also have not received any of the limited time special bonus offerings even though I have replied twice to the offer. All around I am pretty disappointed.

UPDATE: These guys did good on the bad DVD, sent me a whole new set. 5 stars for that! Part of the issue is that Amazon sucks and basically was trying to force me to return the whole set rather then just let me contact the seller.

Now that I have watched all 4 DVDs;

Fire Science - good info, bad video. (I already knew 99% of this info as a fire fighter)
Sneaky Heat - The best DVD of the bunch.
Boom Squish - This is where I was most interested. This DVD SUCKED. They spend half the time telling you not to do what they did, then they don't even show you what you did. Really disappointing. (I bought the whole set for this one disc, so my overall disappointment is quite high)
Hot Rocket - just ok.

As is stated in the beginning of every DVD, you as the video watcher takes a back seat to what is going on. It's an expensive back seat ticket.

Thought this was going to be a dvd on building rocket mass heaters, my mistake.
Very poor quality, and to much bla bla bla about nothing, going on

When I first received the disks I was expecting the content to be solely revolved about rocket mass heaters, but I was delighted to discover the breadth and depth of the topics covered in the 4 discs. The fire science portion is very informative, interesting, and easy to understand, and the subsequent discussions of various other techniques and technologies were similarly elucidating in ways that I had not anticipated. These discs provide a very thorough educational experience, and I would recommend them whole-heartedly to anyone interested in the subject.
