This was an excellent book for me. I had built a basic wordpress site, so I understood the basics, but I knew I could do better. This book really helped me get my site to the next level and understand just enough about SEO to get me going. The book is very well laid out and it is easy to follow along with the author. I only wish Tris Hussey would write an Intermediate Guide for WordPress.

HASH(0x9dfe64b0) out of 5 stars Very useful and accessible April 22 2014

I'm so glad I downloaded this book (on my iPad), because it helped me make the decision to use the upgrade, instead of going for a self-hosted site.

The author of this book is very knowledgeable about WordPress (he also teaches courses on the subject), and his instructions and screenshots of very straightforward and easy to understand. His writing style is conversational, and he explains the pros and cons of a free and self-hosted WordPress site.

I decided to go for the premium upgrade, which he explains in chapter 14, because it seems to include all the necessary widgets and blogging features that I need for right now. By keeping my blog on I don't have to worry about back end issues and third-party upgrades.

The author also explains how to make use of WordPress themes and some CSS coding for both and users. If you have never used WordPress, there are also plenty of videos on the Internet that you should also watch while you use this book as a reference.

This is also the second Absolute Beginner's Guide book I have purchased from Que press, and I must say that the layout and design of their books are very well done. I'm almost tempted to buy paper edition of this book, but the Kindle version will have to suffice.

HASH(0x9dfe66fc) out of 5 stars A Must Have! June 20 2014
By Jeffrey K. Wright - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Both my wife and I plan to begin a website (with blog component) and neither of us have much experience developing websites. Years ago I did spend some time with Microsoft's FrontPage creating a simple website, but that was back in the dark ages of web site design. Much has changed since then. Without getting into the specifics of this book, I simply want to say that the author has done a masterful job of presenting each and every step of using WordPress for the neophyte. His style is as if he were sitting next to me and guiding me slowly through each step. So often it seems software instructors race through their teaching presentations making unrealistic assumptions about how much we know about the subject. This author does not make that mistake. Instead, each step of the way is laid out progressively from selecting your hosting company, to working with advanced features of Plug-Ins and Themes, to installing e-commerce features. Thank you Mr. Hussey for making my task easier and doable!

Easy to follow, but WP changes daily. I was very satisfied with this book as a tool to help me learn.

HASH(0x9dfe69b4) out of 5 stars If you can find Tris, ask her to marry ... Sept. 24 2015
By J. Preston - Published on
Format: Paperback
If you can find Tris, ask her to marry you! This is the guide everyone needs, hands down. It takes you step-by-step from downloading WordPress to uploading the files and creating your website. It is clear, it is well written, it is thorough. This is what a "guide" should be. Note that every review is 5 star - most unusual...and well deserved!
