Reviewed on behalf of My Timeout Book Blog.

I give Wordless 5 stars for keeping me interested and intrigued throughout. Alyne Roberts has brought us a passionate story about powerful families on both the east and west coasts and what one is willing to sacrifice for freedom.

A great story about a long standing vendetta, a young impressionable girl, and a chance to be free. Shiloh Blackard wants her freedom and is willing to give up her family for it. Did she think she'd have to give up her voice also? What would it take to truly be free?

Wordless is a standalone novel that makes you root for love. From a secret to a pawn, follow Shiloh and her journey from one coast to another. Should one's fate be decided by a controlling parent? Should one be entitled to make their own decisions? Shiloh always wanted her freedom and after meeting Pierce one fateful night, she escapes to live what she hopes will be a normal life.

Although they met under abnormal circumstances, you can't help but root for Shiloh and Pierce. Will they survive? Is it true love? Wordless will peek your curiosity and you will stay riveted as the story unfolds. While you follow Shiloh and Pierce through the maze that is their lives you will come across secrets and lies, darkness and light, but most of all....love.

I loved this book and couldn't put it down. As I went from page to page, I wondered what was coming next. I smiled, I cried, but most of all I kept hoping for Pierce to discover Shiloh's secret.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! Dec 2 2016

Wow, I loved this one. I read that it was Inspired by Han Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid so I was expecting something fully based on that story but it's not. I was kind of expecting a mermaid story and its not. It took me a little bit to get the feel for the story but then I was hooked and didn't want to put it down.

Shiloh is a crime boss's daughter. Her and her sister have been kept sheltered and no many people know they exist. On her 21st birthday she is given freedom for one day. Shiloh is strong, brave, and a little bit of a rebel. Of course she stumbles upon trouble on her one night of freedom. Pierce is also from a crime family but his family doesn't get along with Shiloh's family. Pierce is not a guy to be messed with. He's a super hot and loyal guy. I won't give away much but when their paths cross and there will be secrets, sacrifice, and romance.

I had a vague idea of what I was getting into when I picked this book up. An an author event months ago I picked up a bookmark with a blurb and it stood out to me. Months later I purchased the book on Kindle and blazed through it. What I thought I was getting into in no way got me ready for the roller coaster ride I was about to take. Conveying emotion without words is easy to do in the real world, we do it every day but to be able to make that come through in writing in a much harder task. I would love to read more about the fate of the sisters and Poppy. Or even a past story to fully illustrate what started it all in the first place.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's not a story of a pretty romance, all wrapped up in a little bow Dec 2 2016
By M. Addison - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
It's VERY loosely based on The Little Mermaid... in the sense that the main character is drawn to the ocean, and loses her voice. This book is not a fairy tale. It's not a story of a pretty romance, all wrapped up in a little bow. This book is gritty. It's a little dark, it's about fifty shades of weird and even just trying to lay out the plot to my best friend the other night made the story sound really creepy and very 'fifty shades'...

But take my word for it, it's not even close to Fifty Shades. It's better than that... and way more developed! Shiloh is pretty much a nobody in her own home, an invisible child whom no one seems to care about. All she wants is to live her life, and to be someone other than who she is. She desires freedom. On her 21st birthday, she's granted that freedom, but only for a few hours. And after it was dangled in her face... she had to have more. While out of the house, she got tangled up with a man, one she knew was her father's enemy from the get go...

Pierce is not to be toyed with, he's the worst of the worst... a player, a boss, and a scoundrel. He's a bad-ass who even though he knew he shouldn't, he rescues and takes Shiloh into his home, under his care... and things get intensely confusing from there...

This is a story about love, about freedom to be who you are, and about trusting people who show you they can be trusted, instead of the ones who just say 'trust me'. This story is a dark, twisted, tale of a runaway.... where she finds herself living in a world where she's not sure she wants to be found again. This book was so strange, but in a good way. Definitely worth a read in my opinion. Some sexual content violence involved.

This was my first book by the author, so in that aspect I didn't know what to expect - but I really enjoyed her style of writing. As you go back and forth between Shiloh's chapters and Pierce's chapters, there is some overlapping, but just enough to make sure you see all sides of what was happening... I also found myself highlighting long paragraphs in this book.

I wanna share a couple of passages... they won't spoil anything, I promise.

"Everyone thinks I am naive and clueless. No one notices me, and they all think I don't know the kind of person my own father is."

"Shiloh is wordless but not to me. I feel every word."

"I am protected and strong. No longer invisible and overlooked. Never silent and unheard. I may have saved his life once, but he saves mine every single day."
5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED this and would love more like this from the author !! Nov. 28 2016

This may be loosely based on the NON-Disney Little Mermaid BUT regardless of similarities to Disney or Han Anderson I was hooked from the start and devoured the book !! I initially signed on because I love when authors take those Fairytales and do them over with a modern world twist and I challenge myself to read 2 new authors a month !! BUT the cover was stunning and the tagline too so it was a no brainer. It was the perfect length story and the flow was so easy. Ironically this is the 2nd story I read this month with someone who was mute as a main character and although I feel for Shiloh I was also amazed at how well I could connect and feel her due to her being mute. Her thoughts and actions were so expressive and strong. I would love to see this played out on TV. There is nothing sweet and pretty about the story of Pierce and Shiloh BUT there may be a light at the end of their tunnel.

Shiloh has grown up hidden from the world along with her sisters. Their powerful father keeps them locked away in their gated home only letting them out on a particular birthday and then again once he marries them off. Of course Shiloh is the rebel so she takes her 1 night of freedom and turns it into a war of families that reveals many secrets and unites unlikely characters. She goes out and has her innocent fun but when that ends in a life or death choice she chooses to save a man that may bring her more trouble than what she is trying to escape from. Finding him again seems easy enough but what will be at stake fro Shiloh when she takes that step ?? Pierce is in Vegas to celebrate his birthday and he is not from a West coast family so things turn chaotic real fast. Once he is able to head back East he finds himself with an unlikely travel companion that has him so intrigued he too is risking so much to keep her around and attempt to find out her secrets. The sexual tension is crazy , the interactions are intense , the warnings , the tone and of course the danger makes Shiloh and Pierce steaming hot to read !! Hang on tight because the ocean is rough and this couple needs all the help they can get to figure out just what is going on.

Shiloh has been raised as a secret, locked behind high walls, and armed guards. Her father is a powerful crime lord, and she is his only weakness, so the world has no idea she exists. But Shiloh wants to be free so badly, and when her twenty first birthday comes around, it's her turn to have one night out in the world. Instead of having fun, she ends up in the middle of a gun fight, and rescues the most beautiful man she's ever seen, but when it's time for her to go home, she has to leave him behind. As she struggles being back behind her gilded cage, she decides that Pierce is the man to give her freedom, so she escapes home to find him. But things aren't so great out there either, she can't tell him who she really is, but he's decided to use her as a pawn anyway, in the search for the woman who saved his life. When he finds out who she really is, will he keep her safe, or sacrifice her for revenge?

Wordless is a fantastic story that had my heart pounding cover to cover, and it was hard to catch my breath. I LOVED the modern twist on The Little Mermaid, and I couldn't get enough! The character development is fantastic, with a colorful cast of secondaries. The simmering chemistry almost choked me, and it finally boiled over into SIZZLING sexy scene goodness that almost short circuited my kindle. Alyne Roberts' brilliant writing style had me on the edge of my seat the entire story, and OMG, I wanted to beg for more after the last page. I'm a huge fan of suspenseful stories, and hers had an original dark twist to it all, and I'm addicted. Her diabolical twists and turns had me screaming f-bombs like a lunatic, as I never saw most of them coming. So, in conclusion, I'm a new fan girl who cannot wait to read more by her, and I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING Wordless to ALL!
