HASH(0x969c503c) out of 5 stars Excellent Resource For Teaching Ancient World June 12 2011

This book was written as a resource for teachers instructing students in the history of the ancient world, for that reason it is a black line master book. It was somewhat challenging for my sixth grade students to color the water on the maps we used, but with practice they became more successful and more knowledgeable of the shapes of the land which will help them as they encounter other maps in their studies. I especially liked the chapter on trade routes because it helped me teach the economic benchmarks in a way that students clearly understood. Next year I plan to use the section on Understanding Maps as my introduction to the year and also the section on the Stone Age. This is the best resource I have found in two years of searching for materials to supplement my History of the Ancient World course. There are questions requiring reference to modern maps so it also meets the Florida state standard that I was finding difficult to document. Be aware that the copyright date is 1992 so there are errors on some of the maps in the chapter on "The World Today." Well worth the money.

HASH(0x97988ae0) out of 5 stars Okay, but needs teacher help Jan. 23 2009

Used for homeschooling addendum for a 5th grader. Black and white illustrations (color would have definitely be a plus) frequently confused my daughter. Helpful to have answer key in back of book. If you have time to do the recommended readings and extension activities, great! If not, find another resource.
