UPDATE: What a disappointing mess!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 17, 2020Verified Purchase
This item arrived within the last hour. THERE IS AN ISSUE! When we tried to set it up we got a message that says "there is a hardware problem. The wireless network hardware on this console isn't working. You'll need to send it in for repair..." with instructions to contact xbox.com. This is not acceptable. I understand non-refundable and not returnable BUT THAT HAS TO APPLY TO A WORKING ITEM.
Additional info: I contacted the seller and they offered a partial refund; however, I am opting to return the item. No need to spend any amount of money on a defective item. The seller was responsive to the issue. Disappointed with the product but satisfied with the seller working to make this right (at this time). Will update when refund is processed.
5/27/2020: I have UPS confirmation that the product was returned to the seller. Now I am awaiting the refund.
6/8/2020: I received a full refund. While my purchase was disappointing, I am pleased that the vendor proposed options and worked with me to ensure this issue was resolved.

The XB1 has gotten much better with updates, good value at this price
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 27, 2015Verified Purchase
This is a great value for 350 dollars. This was a present for someone as I already own an Xbox One w/o Kinect. I also own a Playstation 4, so I can really give the pros and cons of the system so far as my experience is concerned. The UI has improved vastly since I purchased my Xbox One. The controller feels really good and is right with the PS4 controller, but the Lb and Rb buttons are a downgrade when compared to the 360 controller imo. The system games well and has had no crashes so far although Upload Studios still gives me some issues that require a cold reboot. For anyone that is on the fence, I would recommend getting the non-Kinect version because screenshot support and the xbox record that option of quick snapping has improved vastly. The Xbox One has improved over time with updates and has gotten to the point to where I feel that it is equal to the PS4 in some features despites some hardware bottlenecks. The most important thing is that people who might purchase an XB1 not get drawn into the "fanboy or homer" hype that defenders of brands sometimes employ. HDD expandability is super easy as well as I have a 2Tb external HDD on mine right now.
Here is a list of cons that I still currently have with the XB1. My biggest gripe is the horrible bottleneck on audio. You will need a 25 dollar headset adapter to use some of the third party headsets and using a USB powered headset is still not available on the XB1. This USB feature is already supported on the PS4 for some headsets, so you can have a versatile headset to use on consoles as well as pc's if you have something like the Hyperx Cloud or Cloud II headset. The small plug is still needed on the XB1 and limits audio to 2 channel stereo sound. Another gripe I have is DVR times. The max times are still five minutes while on PS4 it is much longer. Also the DVR clips currently cannot be moved to an external HDD, but Microsoft lets you use an external HDD for general storage, but the PS4 allows game clips to be moved to external storage with ease. I still have issues with party chat dropping on some games as well. I am in the preview program and I give this feedback as to hope Microsoft listens and the XB1 continues to get better with updates. Overall, this is a good time to pickup the XB1 if you are on the fence despite some drawbacks.

awesome game system from a ps4 fan
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 27, 2015Verified Purchase
I was a complete sony/ps4 guy. I decided to buy this for a few reasons. 1: I had a 360 and before it broke I really loved gears of war on it. I can't wait for the remake and 4 to come out. 2: I am a big madden/fifa/nhl guy. I usually wait until the games are on sale for $20-30 before I buy them. With EA access, I have all three of them and battlefield 4 for the price of $30. So far they have put every game on there once they have gotten a little stale. I am patient enough to wait for the new games to get on there so I have massive savings just on the sports games. 3. Sling tv. Playstation does not have this option. This may sound like a dumb reason but switching to a non cable option of netflix/hulu/sling tv and having it on one box is great. Now for the few cons I have experienced. This may be personal preference, but I prefer the UI of the ps4 to this. It is much easier to find stuff. Also, a big negative for me is the option of non-rechargeable batteries, and looking into the recommended microsoft solution, charge $25 for a recharging kit. I have been spoiled having this included. I also like the controllers of the ps4, but again, this is personal preference. I dont know why, but I feel the xbone controllers are bigger than the 360. One last con that is a big personal preference is I think sony has better exclusives, but it depends on your taste. I love metal gear solid (no longer exclusive, but was in the past), god of war, uncharted, last of us, ratched and clank, order 1886, etc. When I owned a 360, I primarily played madden, call of duty, gears of war, and halo, with not much else I was interested in. One last thing that most people probably think is dumb is I prefer the trophy system to the achievement system, but this is also why I love the xbox. Any multiplat games that I don't care about going for the platinum trophy, or there too difficult to go for platinum, I will just get on xbox one, because I could care less about the achievements. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. Got this bundle with arkham knight, 3 month xbox live, and an extra controller for $350. Selling a lot of the extras made this purchase in the $250 range, which I think is perfect. I really have enjoyed my xbox one, and would recommend one to anyone.

Microsoft will lose sales overall.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 13, 2016Verified Purchase
I wrote a seller review stating it came earlier than it was supposed to arrive, and that they gave me exactly what I ordered, figured I would open with that.
The console itself drove me nuts for several days and to a point still does.
First thing on my list that annoyed the living crap out of me was the fact you need to install literally ever game you play, disk games included. That doesn't seem so bad at first but when you realize you are missing out on over 100GB of storage space from all the crap microsoft put on there you start sweating when you look at the list of games you want to play. After installing the 2, A.C. Unity and Black Flag (I don't care for Unity by the way), games I got with the console and then adding in "Halo Master Chief Collection," to the hard drive I started looking at a few other games like I was about to play a game of real life vs digital storage style Tetris.
When I finally decided what games to have frequent access too vs uninstalling a game and installing something else to play something two hours into the future.... My next major complaint was the install/update speed. Now I have an ASUS AC3100 with over 50MB connection speed, I run my PC on wireless all day and never have an issue. However watching the install/update times was a lot like watching paint dry and literally about the same speed.
Also you can no longer send voice messages to people, only text messages. In order to voice chat you must use party. That might be something that microsoft sends out a patch for later.
Final complaint was the horrible dashboard, the navigation is terrible and nothing is simplified. It seems Microsoft forgot the phrase, "more options is no options." No I don't want your terrible Microsoft Edge browser on my Xbox, I don't want to stream videos, or games, I don't want widgets and gadgets I will never use taking up that precious 500GB for my video games. (382GB with all the stuff they have on there) I bought the console for video games, I did not buy it for a computer, I have a computer for that.
The good news is, I can play games on it now, only took a few days to get going on it.

but the PS4 is nothing like the PS3 in terms of media center hub
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 11, 2015Verified Purchase
It's an Xbox One. I wanted a PS4, but the PS4 is nothing like the PS3 in terms of media center hub. Our Xbox360 was like a jet engine, so that didn't help either.
However, we have over 1,000 DLC songs for Rock Band (Xbox360), and they won't transfer to Sony's console, so that kind of made the decision pretty easy. We mostly use it for Netflix at the moment, if it even turns on at all (summer = rarely watch TV). It IS very quiet, so there's that, which is a huge plus for us.
Games... I don't know. I got GTA5 with it, but I hate FPS-style games on consoles because I grew up with mouse + keyboard. So I bought GTA5 for PC, and have played over 100 hours so far. I bought my wife Dragon Age: Inquisition, but she's a PC gamer as well, and has been addicted to Civ5 all summer (school teacher, this is her only time to play).
I'm sure there will eventually be non-FPS games (we love racing and sports and puzzle games) that will never come out for PC, so we'll eventually get our gaming in. Definitely when Rock Band 4 comes out this fall.
I'm still unhappy that I have to pay for XBL just to use Netflix and other apps. I don't play online on the consoles, only PC. But I paid just so I can cry and complain about it, though my normal brain assures me that eventually I'll use enough features to justify the $32 (got it on a great sale!). Plus, I am well aware of the fact that paying for a premium service means the service is generally superior to others. I own a PS3 as well, and Xbox has always been better in terms of online services, though Sony has definitely caught up these days. So I complain, but in the end, I understand and accept. It's a first-world problem. I guess I'm lucky enough to complain about paying $32 for a luxury when $32 in other parts of the world could buy life-saving medicine. Now I feel like a jerk for even owning an Xbox... what the...?
Pro:
quiet
fast
has all the proper apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, sports, etc
good games that I'll be interested in eventually
ROCK BAND 4! AND ALL OUR PREVIOUS DLC TRANSFERS!
somehow the controllers are even better than the 360's
built-in wireless and HDMI - I would have never bought another MS product if they made me go through the misery they did with the 360 and the separate and crummy wireless adapter and no HDMI port (yes, they added HDMI on the later ones... but I wasn't about to buy another 360 just for that).
Helped us decide to cancel DirecTV and save $113/month once we could get the NHL Center Ice package to work with XBL
MS always updates their consoles and adds excellent features (like backwards compat and DVR functions)
Cons:
sort of useless for the moment but that will slowly change over time
makes me sad that I waste energy complaining about having to buy Xbox Live Gold when other humans on the planet are living in horrible conditions
No HBO Now app yet
