The Yggdrasil Codex

Who are we? Why are we here? Are we all there is?

Profound questions that few have answers for, though mankind continues to ask, apparently to deaf heavens. But what if we did have answers? What if we could ask someone? What would that be like?

The Yggdrasil Codex blends the best parts of a modern science fiction thriller with equal quantities first contact science fiction and Norse mythology.

In this life there are a great many profound questions that have yet to be answered and thankfully, philosophers and scientists around the world continue to ask, and to help us make sense of them. This is such a tale.

In the Yggdrasil Codex, two young friends and scientists, both undertaking vastly different fields of study (Astrophysics and Runology), come together to help solve the greatest of life's mysteries.

While researching ancient Viking runestones at the University of Oslo in Norway, Magnus Olsen and his friend Tariq Al-Fazari, make an astonishing discovery. Their find is of such magnitude that the Norwegian and English Prime Ministers set up a joint task force and the researchers are rushed to Bletchley Park in London, historic home of the famous WWII code breakers.

Bringing together the world's greatest minds in astronomy, astrophysics, runology, history and mathematics, the team unlocks the secrets to the Yggdrasil Codex.

What happens next will rustically shift the course of human history and will ultimately have galactic consequences!

A few words from the author:

The idea for the Yggdrasil Codex struck me one day when I was walking through our garden in Virginia. I won’t tell you exactly why, but you’ll understand once you read the story. Much like any of you, I often asked myself - why? Why are we here? If there is a God, why did he/she create us? This story is my attempt at puzzling out those answers.

Many of you enjoyed the story so much that it became an Amazon best seller, and inspired me to write a series of novels which take place 115 years after the events in the Yggdrasil Codex.

(This short story is 3200 words)

BONUS: Includes the first 3 chapters of the Novel "Star Wolves" which takes place 115 years after this short story!

HASH(0xa146b69c) out of 5 stars A 21st Century Enlightenment May 25 2012

Mr Long's story expands on the Norse mythology of the nine worlds in a modern context. This story causes the reader to think on the possibility of "what if". I felt my imagination stir when he connected the runestone with aliens. I was actually pondering the question in a more serious context. Mr Long adeptly draws on ancient Germanic cosmology while keeping the story as whole modern. This enables the reader to see past and present at the same moment. I am not much of one for alien stories but I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

HASH(0xa146b6f0) out of 5 stars Great short story! Sept. 7 2012

I've recently read both of the short stories on Kindle by the author Hugh B Long. The Yggdrasil Codex, and Crimes & Punishment. I highly recommend them both. They're intelligent, well written, and very entertaining. If you enjoy a story that gives you food for thought and a twist or suprise ending, you won't be disapointed. I plan on reading his other works, and am looking forward to his new novel coming out soon!

HASH(0xa146bb28) out of 5 stars Uplifting June 2 2012

This delightful sci-fi/fantasy tale presents an intriguing possible "meaning" behind the Norse myths. It paints a hopeful picture of a universe in which we are not alone, but are guided by our distant elder kin. Fun and feel-good!

HASH(0xa146bee8) out of 5 stars Intriguing Concept May 26 2012

An exciting possibility, The Yggdrasil Codex offers a unique view on the theories of mankind's creation. My only complaint is that it ended far too soon. This should be a definite addition to the library of conspiracy theorists. You won't be disappointed.

I grabbed this short book to read, as it seemed quite interesting. Wow, was I ever in for a surprise, taken into a world of runes, constellations, worm holes...my only negative comment is that it ended way too soon! I definitely recommend grabbing this book, it will get your mind thinking as it never has before, and as another reviewer stated, this is a definite addition to the library of conspiracy theorist!
