HASH(0xa3430e94) out of 5 stars Off Da (Fish) Hook! March 7 2013

It would only be natural for da Godfather of P-Funk to, after talkin' 'bout atomic dogs chasin' cats, target the wonderful world of fish and other Nubian delights! More cohesive and just as funky and tight as its predecessor, "Computer Games," comes "You Shouldn't Nuf Bit, Fish," featuring the first single, "Nubian Nut" with its brilliant tribal beats and incredibly funky Old School (as well as CRAZY) rap midway through.

Additionally, the second single, "Quickie," slams pretty hard as does the final single, "Last Dance." In "Quickie," one can't help not hearing ("Not Just) Knee Deep" with its infectious funk and wailin' and effective guitar solo. In "Last Dance," there's a particular poetry that comes along with it on top of yet another funky groove for all the "psychedelic wallflowers" who can't resist the urge 2 get down and dance .

Another key moment is in the title cut, an almost 9 minute long political and anti-nuclear fission romp that gives grace and asks the Lawd to "bless this fish." The silliness is still apparent and Da Funk is set firmly in place. After "Atomic Dog," one might have expected a just as gigantic hit in "Nubian Nut," however, the American R&B record-buying public seemed 2 have slept on it somehow. In spite of this, it still charted as a Top 20 R&B hit single.

If you're gonna buy ANY of Clinton's Eighties output on Capitol, this (along with its follow-up, "R&B Skeletons in the Closet") are the ones to go with. There's fun for days in the mix and from the moment you hit "PLAY," you, TOO will be "throwin' down in da studio track 4 track a-lettin' ever'body know da empire strikes BACK!" We can only hope for a remastered, reissued version in time. Until then, just know that this s*** izz off da (fish)hook!

I enjoy the music on this CD. It is funny and has a great funk beat. Mr George Clinton made his mark by building on the Funk of Mr James Brown. Many of the JB team became members of Parliment. Here, Mr Clinton updates those rhythms of the seventies by adapting them to the sound of the eighties. He has lots of great help from his friends, including Bootsie Collins, and a singer-songwriter who used to have a name. ;D Not only is the Funk the best, the songs are entertaining, tongue-in-cheek social statements. "Quickie" exposes the little known secret that ladies sometimes make a Bootie Call. "Last Dance" is a good-natured parody of "Let's Dance" by Mr David Bowie, and the title track is an anti-nuke commentary. If you enjoy humour in your music coupled with Super Super Heavy Funk, this CD will be interesting to you.

This is a solid follow-up to Computer Games and Urban Dancefloor Guerillas. Nubian Nut would have fit nicely on a 70's Parliament album. Very old school funk but Clinton isn't the best rapper. Quickie sounds like it belongs on Funkadelic's Hardcore Jollies. Great guitar work. The title track is one of Clinton's best.

HASH(0xa35cd810) out of 5 stars One of the Funk Mob's 80's finest Nov. 28 2011

All the tracks on this album are great, but tracks two through six are classics. They have all the musicianship and vocal prowess you'd hope for on a slamming P-Funk album. The first and last tracks are full of Clinton's rapping wit, but nothing can compete with the whole outfit digging in and laying down the funk like they do on most of the album.
