However coy she might be in her public statements, Britney Spears leans more than a bit toward the provocative on In the Zone. Less concerned with aiming at the mainstream radio dial than in the first days of her career, she and her collaborators make this as street and club ready a record as possible. The opening duet with Madonna, "Me Against the Music," is worthy, but the bigger superstars presence serves almost less as a performance than a key to Britneys intentions: as Madonna did on albums such as Erotica , Ray of Light, and Music, shes out to bend current trends to her needs. R. Kelly, Moby, and Ying Yang Twins all provide stirring moments that draw on everything from Bollywood to Southern hip-hop, while one of the most impressive tracks, "Touch of My Hand," joins the proud tradition of Cyndi Laupers "She Bop." She still lacks a fully formed artistic vision of her own, but Zone, with its many get-free anthems, puts her much closer. --Rickey Wright --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This album features Britney's most notable hits like "Toxic", beautiful ballads like "Everytime", and raunchy tracks like "Breathe On Me" and "Touch Of My Hand." Madonna fans and dance fanatics will enjoy "Me Against The Music" regular version and Rishi Rich's Desi Kulcha Remix. Hip-hop junkies can get their rap ready with "(I Got That) Boom Boom" featuring the Ying Yang Twins. If anything, this album became Britney Spears stepping-stone to bigger and deeper waters making her the Next Madonna!
The DVD features the entire album in 5.1 Surround Sound & Stereo plus the videos Toxic, Everytime, and MegaMix. It is NTSC and viewable in the United States. The release date is 2003 and to this day I still view it. While her DVDs titled, In the Zone (+ Bonus CD) and Britney Spears - Greatest Hits - My Prerogative have Toxic and Everytime they do not have the MegaMix. The sound and quality is excellent with distinct clarity and fabulous picture viewing.
On this edition, the lyrics are not included nor is the bonus tracks "The Answer" and "Don't Hang Up" found on the Japan album. The advantage of this particular release is the fact you can listen to the entire album with much better sound, and also view the videos with the exclusive MegaMix not found anywhere unless you have the picture sleeve promo available in some exclusive websites.Read more ›
Take it from someone who's really not a huge Britney fan. In fact, I've bashed her many times, lol. But this CD is actually REALLY good. She experiments with electronica, synth and dance, and it actually fits her like a glove (especially since her voice is so filtered, she sounds like a robot sometimes). It's different than the pop fluff that she usually does.
TOXIC - I have to admit this is one of the best pop songs of this millenium. The beat is so catchy and it sounded different than anything else on the radio. Like her or not, you have to admit that "Toxic" is fantastic.
EVERYTIME - Yes, Britney actually has a nice sounding ballad. Her voice isn't spectacular, but the synth piano, strings and subtle percussion create a haunting masterpiece. This song actually gives me goosebumps. One of the best ballads I've ever heard (seriously).
BRAVE NEW GIRL - This song sounds very similar to Imani Capolla's "Legend of a Cowgirl". It also has elements of Madonna's "Material Girl", and Talk Talk/no Doubt's "It's my Life". Nevertheless, her voice sounds kind of cool because the engineer made it sound electronic (a la Cher) at some parts. Overall, a great, and fun dance song.
SHADOW - Another great ballad. I was produced by The Matrix, so it does sound a little Avril-ish. But there are a lot of synth sound effects which give it a futuristic feel. Definitely a good listen.
SHOWDOWN - This is kind of a mid-tempo pop song that sounds very unique. It's very catchy, and it has a lot of dance/analog elements in it. The guitars make the song what it is in my opinion.Read more ›
