Good question. I just went and looked - it's definitely not plastic, more like a thin, rolled cardboard. It's stiff for use, but I was able to easily bend it, and when I twisted it at the bend, it broke in half. I don't know if it's bamboo but I don't think so. It has more of a paper type texture.
