What do ankle weights do?
By adding weight to your lower legs, ankle weights provide an elegant way to put you in charge of your fitness program. Simply strap them to your ankles to increase the intensity of workouts such as pull ups, leg lifts, squats, crunches, kicks, and lunges. You can also wear them as you go about your regular home chores, or when you go shopping. The weights make your core, glutes, calves, hamstrings, and other muscles work harder and get stronger. The most common type of ankle weights feature cushioned straps made of soft, durable material, with pouches to hold cast iron bars for weight, and fit around your ankles with Velcro. Some are fixed, others are adjustable, meaning you can add or remove the bars. Other adjustable ankle weights are simple strap-on containers you fill with sand.
