Which music stand is best?
Music stands generally come in two types: foldable and non-foldable. Foldable music stands are made of metal and are the easiest to pack and transport. These use a metal frame to hold sheet music in place and usually include small arms to hold pages open. Lightweight and ideal for practice, for professional performances they may not be sturdy enough, especially if you keep a significant amount of music books and sheets on the stand at any time. Non-foldable stands are far more robust, though also harder to transport as they do not collapse down conveniently. These are commonly painted black to match the attire of the orchestra and professional bands they are intended for, they are less likely to topple during prolonged performances or those which may take place outside.
