What can you use studio monitors for?
When mixing music, you need to be able to make adjustments to the sound you’ve recorded. Studio monitors help with this by playing back the most accurate frequencies, without added tones or feedback. In contrast, if you played the mix back on a regular speaker the result may depend on the quality of the sound system more than the mix itself. You need a neutral, uncluttered output to make decisions in the studio. A high quality monitor speaker reproduces the original audio signal in a flat, accurate manner without pushing up the bass or other frequencies. This means that you’re able to hear the recording as it really sounds, so that you can pick out each element of the sound mix and tweak these elements as needed in post-production.
