This book is an easy weekend read. Miki walks you through her experiences (and there have been a lot of them) while providing helpful anecdotes for aspiring entrepreneurs or those just looking to forge their own path in life.
The book reads similarly to a Seth Godin or Tim Ferriss book but Miki Agrawal's personality and values jump off the pages making it an enjoyable and enlightening read.
I would definitely recommend this book to those who want to make a change but don't want to go straight to the self-help genre. Instead think of it as a friendly kick in the butt to go out and do something meaningful.

Very inspirational book! Yes it is mostly about the author and what she did to find success in business and in life......but it's how she did it and what she learned along the way that is so inspiring. This book helps you see how thinking outside the box and taking risks can pay off in many ways. If you are a "type A" personality or an introvert this is probably not the book for you. This book is perfect if you are a person who is unhappy with the employee mindset and dream of bigger and better things. There are great takeaways and exercises to get you thinking and lots of tips on where to find information to help you get started. The author shows how to stand out and get noticed as well as how to create a community of like minded people who can inspire and push each other to achieve their best. This is not an in depth "How To" manual......It is an inspiring story with great thought provoking ideas. It has definitely inspired me to take the next steps in a couple areas that I have been procrastinating about.

Some good Sh*it, Some useless Sh*it

This book was given to me by a friend who knew I was contemplating a career shift. I found that it was a great starting point to help me shift my mindset, get me thinking about the bigger picture of my life, and stimulate ideas of the business I want to build. I would suggest this book to anyone who is in a similar circumstance (job dissatisfaction and contemplating a career over-haul) and needs a bit of motivation to take the plunge.

While a little self-promotional, Miki does offer some good points on taking first steps, and challenges readers to ask questions that will lead them in the right direction of developing their brand and business. She describes her journey to opening her restaurant, with nothing but an idea and a few connections that she strongly takes advantage of. Her success is a completely unique situation, and I don't know if repeating the steps that she suggests would really work for any other market or situation than her own...

I read the book cover to cover, however I could have done without the last 100 pages or so. Miki attempts to provide readers with health, fitness, and love advice. She holds no credibility in these areas, aside from what has "worked for her" - which is completely specific to her unique circumstances and would not serve much help to general population. It feels like reading "filler" material, which actually made the first half of the book feel slightly less impact-ful.

An introvert's nightmare with no actual evidence.

This book should probably be called "be an organized extrovert with goals", because that's really all she's describing. This book is an introvert's nightmare. There's absolutely nothing to back up anything in this book besides a "this is what I did and I turned out okay" attitude. This book could also have been called "how to make irresponsible decisions and take advantage of your friends". Up and quit an internship exchange program when you're already there because you think you deserve better? Get the company's driver to drive you to soccer tryouts and wait three hours twice a week for two months? I'm guessing she's quite charming and persuasive in person and I just can't stand people who think they deserve whatever they can squeeze out of someone else's kindness. She even says if you want time off work to pursue your passion and possible follow on by quitting your job, find the kindest person in the company with the most pull. That's just straight up taking advantage of people.

Hard to relate to this book

It simply didn't connect with me. I think this is a good book for a university student or new grad to give perspective around how a 9-5 doesn't have to be the only option, but a little amateur for someone who has been in the workforce for a number of years. For example, creating a professional PowerPoint presentation to show your boss to ask for time off. Or referencing Dale Carnegie by telling people that smiles go a long way. It was at that point when I realized the value I would gain from this book would be minimal.

As previous people said, the book seemed quite self promotional, and is VERY unique to her own experiences. In some cases, it seemed too good to be true. Again, a new grad or young professional could gain some value from this, but I personally could not.

Wow. To say this book is inspiring seems trite. It's fun, invigorating, and it's a kick in the pants. I hope the inspired feeling doesn't go away. You can read it 100 times, and you can have lots of ideas, but the key is to act. This book will tell you how to make it happen in the simplest terms. So simple that it makes you wonder what was stopping you before. That's what makes it so brilliant. Changing your life and bringing your idea to fruition is not rocket science. It's hard work and passion and creativity and tenacity. Put simply, Miki is a badass. She's tenacious. She didn't let anyone stand in the way of getting what she wanted. But she's also fun and creative and her stories make you realize that you can do it too if you go for it, learn from your mistakes, don't give up, smile, and have a little fun along the way. Easy right? I've always had tons of crazy ideas, but I never knew what to do next. Now I feel like a game plan is at my fingertips. All I have to do is take the first step. That's the hardest part, but there's no excuse at this point.

This book is a fun read, but it's so much more. I think it could inspire anyone, whether or not they want to start a business. It's all about following your passions and living the life you want to live, in your personal and your professional life. She asks lots of questions. Don't just breeze through them, really answer them. Don't just read this book, share it. The advice is spot on. I plan on sharing the advice with my friends and even my kids. Share why it inspires you, why is resonates.

At the very least, you'll get to read a story about a cool girl who is doing some really cool shit. And it will make you realize that maybe you can too.

Miki is the real deal! How can you not be motivated after reading this book? After years of working in a unsatisfying job I bought this book to see if it really is possible to "Start my own business and live happily ever after". From the minute I started reading I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down. After getting halfway thru the book on my lunch hour I got so interested in the restaurant Miki created I left work early and drove 1 1/2 hours to experience her place first hand. Being so impressed by her place, the food and service I replied to the email newsletter I had signed up for earlier that day and wrote that I was actually having dinner in Wild and enjoying her book. Not even thinking anyone would even get my email I was blown away when I got an email back. From Miki herself! She replied saying she was going to be there in an hour and for me to hang around and say hello. I did just that and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Miki and Radha. These girls are two of the coolest and most genuine people I have ever met. They made me feel so at home and talked to me about my dreams and passions and got me so pumped up to start taking action. They shared some of their stories and hung out with me like I was a life long friend. It was extremely motivating meeting them. Awesome experience and like Miki said, it was because I took some action and drove down there that it all happened.

For me, this book isn't just for twenty-somethings who are just starting out, its also for people like me, who are just ready for a change. And who need a kick in the ass to get started. For me, this book is that kick in the ass. I'm going take it with me everywhere I go as a reminder to keep taking action.

Let me begin by noting something I wish I would have noted before I bought this book. Many of the five-star reviews of this book both in Amazon.co.uk and on Amazon.com are written by reviewers having only reviewed a single book. In other words, these reviews look suspiciously like dishonest reviews. The first five-star review on Amazon.com was even written by the author's sister, who conveniently failed to disclose her obvious conflict of interest when reviewing the book. Not good signs, upfront.

That being said, what is the book actually like? I bought the book for opinions and advice on entrepreneurship and life with a startup company. The book does cover such topics. However, it reads a bit more like an autobiography than anything else. Basically, the book covers how the author, Miki Agrawal, got annoyed by her internship and quit, had a stint in investment banking and quit, and then decided to start up a company of her own (a gourmet pizza restaurant in New York). There's even some advice in the end on keeping fit and finding love.

The most glaring problem with the book is that the author comes of as ridiculously self-centered, boasting and even somewhat disparaging of many other people. The style of the book's writing is sort of teenage-y, with heads-up to friends, occassional references to her twin sister (Radha, or just Rads, as she refers to her) and frequent exclamation signs. For the first few chapters, it feels as if the purpose of the author mainly is to show off how amazing she is, how much energy she has and how easily she makes friends and gets stuff done. She seems rather eager to show how much she is one of the cool kids. I actually lent this book to a friend before reading it myself, and he gave it back to me after these first chapters because he simply couldn't stand it.

These problems apart, the stated purpose of the author is to write a guide for young entrepreneurs wanting to start a business. One problem in this regard is that most young entrepreneurs probably don't really start out with the same sort of resources as the author (Ivy League education, many resourceful friends and certainly not a poor family). The author doesn't really seem to reflect on this, and appears more or less to take these things for given, which doesn't come off as very sympathetic to the issues of the average person. On a more positive note, Agrawal actually makes some good points throughout the book. She is consistently very energetic and ambitious, and this is somewhat inspiring. Taking risks and not being afraid of making mistakes are certainly important skills, both for aspiring entrepreneurs and for living life in general, and Agrawal appears to have these skills in spades.

Still, all in all, I found this book rather disappointing. The author and her writing is annoying, and the advice and ideas presented by the book is not very impressive. The hype generated around this publication appears to be precisely that, hype. For a book with practical advice on entrepreneurship (less personal, admittedly), I'd instead recommend "The smart entrepreneur" by Bart Clarysse and Sabrina Kiefer.

The four stars are given for the first half of this book, where the author tells us her story of opening her own business. There are truly great insights, tips, challenges, and advice for anyone who is even dreaming of opening their own business. This book challenged me to think of my work and my business in a different way. It inspired me to get off my butt and actually start doing cool s*** already!

And then there is the second half of the book. The part where Agrawal takes us through how to build friendships, how to be fit and healthy, and how to keep romance alive. The author clearly loves her life - which is great! But I found it quite sad this sort of instruction manual on how to be happy. Her choices and her lifestyle work for her, but it's naive to assume that she has found "the right way to live". That her happiness can be universally super-imposed onto any individual? I'm not buying it.

Read this book! Please read this book! It's great. It is positive and inspiring and encouraging and funny and clever. But I recommend skipping the chapters on the author's love-life and travel journal.
