Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

What a delightful surprise!
I did not expect to enjoy this book but I loved it!
It was fun to read about this dysfunctional family.
I loved the epistolary form, which was well thought out and very engaging.
The characters are not very likeable, but that did not stopped me feeling part of the story. I was really enthralled from beginning to end.
Now I must watch the movie adaptation, because I must see if they created the glass house.

I read this book a few years ago and when I heard they'd made a movie version, I wanted to read it again to refresh my memory. It did not disappoint! There's really nothing quite like it. This book is a crazy ride and I loved every frustrating, hilarious, even heartbreaking minute of it.

I read this in two or three gulps. Ms Semple has great facility, rendering her prose very readable, but she is never facile. Wonderful characters, rendered in full, through emails, letters, telegrams, etc. power the story along, without a hiccup. And, wonder of wonders, her main characters have arcs, all becoming something other than what they were at the beginning. The setting is, mostly, Seattle and Ms Semple gives it to the reader with sharply observed insights and great affection. Above all, though, this is a funny, funny book, with a warm, beating heart, nicely dampened by persistent Seattle rain.

What an adventure this book takes you on. Written in such a unique way, having snipets from email exchanges as a means to tell the story, as well as small narratives from teenage Bee, this one will take you on a journey.
Synopsis: Bernadette is such a unique person, having just hired a virtual assistant from India, she no longer has to leave the house to do the simplest of errands. Her husband works on a major project for Microsoft, and their daughter Bee is quite the scholar. Living in Seattle, things start to unwind as Bernadette seems to be losing her mind, taking the virtual assistant thing a little too far. Her husband is worried about her when she becomes extremely hostile to other mothers of children at Bee’s school and has even run over one mother’s toe with her car (apparently). So her husband does what any would do, and tries to get Bernadette the helps she needs, however, on the eve of their family trip to Antarctica (on Bee’s wishes), things don’t go as planned and Bernadette goes missing. Bee doesn’t believe her mom disappeared, but when they hear that Bernadette actually went on the cruise to Antartica and perhaps fell overboard, Bee isn’t sure what to believe anymore....
This book is filled with thrills of all kinds, and makes you want to keep reading to find out where Bernadette went.

Loved this sweet book and the delightful characters in it. Although a fairly light read, I stumbled across half a dozen words I had to look up. An intelligently written book that will make you laugh out loud.

Light, airy, witty, mystery and original

The Bernadette character is so relatable, and all of the characters brings a new kind of pace to the story. Thoroughly enjoyed it beyond expectations. Easy to read and didn't feel drabby - the plot unravelling was well timed
