About the authors

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly six million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 160 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels and nonfiction.
Now that her two children are grown, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.
When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

Gayle Haggard is an author, speaker, and the wife of Ted Haggard, founding pastor of New Life Church (Colorado Springs, Colorado), and former president of the National Association of Evangelicals. Together Ted and Gayle grew New Life Church from a small group of people meeting in their home to a 14,000-member congregation. There, Gayle directed women's ministries, teaching women of all ages and overseeing 150 women's small groups. In 2006, their world was rocked by scandal, and they stepped down from leadership. Since that time, Gayle and Ted have emerged from their crisis with their faith, marriage, and family stronger than ever because of what they experienced and learned. Today they lead Roundtable discussions with Christian leaders around the nation which focus on the idea of restoring the key ideas of the New Testament to the modern church's reputation. Gayle is the author of the New York Times best-selling book, Why I Stayed: the Choices I Made in my Darkest Hour, and her newest book, Courageous Grace. In addition, she has made numerous public appearances on CNN, The Today Show, Larry King, Oprah, The View, Dr. Drew, the Huckabee Show, and NPR along with many others, sharing the hope, love, and grace that strengthened her in her darkest hour. Gayle and Ted currently pastor St. James Church in Colorado Springs where Gayle leads a ministry called Women Belong. She and Ted have five children and two grandchildren.

I was glad to see that the book was truly about GAYLE'S journey and the focus was not on Ted. Gayle does a sufficient job describing the Ted's sin and fall, but the book does not focus mainly on his deeds, but on her journey as a woman who has been betrayed and on her decisions as a wife, mother, and Christian. Gayle's story is a powerful testimony of God's faithfulness, love, and grace. It reminded me that God knows "the plans he has" for each of our lives and will use all "for good" in spite of our lack of insight of His ways. It is difficult to imagine how THIS situation can be used for God's glory, but it was indeed!
I admire Gayle for the CHOICES she made. As a woman who has experienced marital unfaithfulness, I can attest to the power of emotions of betrayal, pain, and anger to consume you. It is difficult to see the good in your spouse in the face of such pain, shock, and despair. However, you have to look at the long term and ask yourself what you want your marriage to look like down the road and remember the love that binds you together. A marriage entwines your lives and histories together in a way that does not allow you to separate the two lives easily...if at all.
I don't see Gayle's choice to stay as weakness or naivety. I believe her choice to see demonstrates her strength, resolve, and faith. She was very honest in this book and I appreciated the open self-reflection she shared.
The Humility and Honesty that Gayle writes with are truly inspiring. I found myself wanting to be a better Christian, a better Wife and a better friend.
I was a part of New Life Church the day the "Scandal Broke" and my family was devastated and deeply hurt. The impact of that day will never be forgotten in our family. Today though I can say I believe the impact this book has had on me and will have on the people who read it will far outweigh the negatives of the scandal.
Gayle has once again made me admire her for the inner strength and Beauty that has always been present in everything she does.
One other important thing that prevails in this book is the strength of the Haggard family. I thought there was alot of valuable information for all families in dealing with difficult situations and how to work through those things with love and respect for each other.
Much Love, Grace and Peace, eg
