After having suffered yet another major problem with Samsung products, I decided to submit a review.
What happened this time? (I mention the previous issues at the bottom, quickly) The SSD died completely.
In May 2013, I bought a Samsung 840 PRO SSD 256 GB. I know, it’s been a while and its warranty is expired. I admit it. But it is also true that:
• I haven’t touched the drive since 2018
• From 2015 to 2017 I only used it occasionally, as an external backup drive, so, neither ‘active’ (Operating System drive) nor ‘daily’ use since the end of 2015
• During the time I used it as main, internal system drive (2013 to 2015), I treated it with gloves in a way that NOBODY does: I set up my browsers’ cache folder AND Windows’ TEMP and TMP folders to a RamDrive, which RELIEVED THE SSD FROM THE MAIN and CONTINUOUS USE and read/write data cycles
• I bought a ‘PRO’!!!! One can spend much less to buy the EVO (cheaper) version of any Samsung SSD. I bought the PRO, paid a lot of money more (compared with the commercial EVO version), and only for 2 reasons: RELIABILITY and DEPENDABILITY. To have that peace of mind.
• It was always used in a laptop. Therefore, with the battery as a filter, it never suffered power outages.
Well, what’s the result of spending more money to buy Samsung’s PRO version of a drive? Today, after more than 2 years that I didn’t touch it, I plug it and my computer goes nuts. Without getting into the technicalities of the issue, the drive is dead, gone. I tried it on 3 different computers, 2 different operating systems, 2 different USB enclosures, and 2 different SATA ports and cables (direct SATA connection to the computer motherboard). It’s gone dead. Even the computer BIOS can’t detect its existence.
So much for buying the ‘PRO’ which, excluding the non-using time, died in about 3 years, while MUCH CHEAPER non-‘PRO’ SSDs, used more intensively than my ‘PRO’, last longer, even double this time.
What were the other lemons I got from Samsung? Here’s a very quick summary (I could write a novel in details):
SAMSUNG LAPTOP NP370R5E-S04-IT’s ISSUES:
• Fabrication defect: it overheats
• SATA III controller forced to ‘down-grade’ to SATA II mode (no product description, ads, or manual said that), with the user spending a lot of money to obtain a top-performing SATA III SSD drive, only to find out, a while after purchasing, that it was running at half its speed due to the computer BIOS forcing the SATA II mode to a perfectly SATA-III capable controller
• Defective keyboard: while typing, many keys are missed, as if you never touched them. You have to re-learn to type pressing the buttons very hard to make them work (and slowing down your typing speed by at least 40%)
• Battery swollen after a few years, to the point of breaking all the internal case supports (the new battery I installed has to float adrift in the laptop because the screwed supports are all broken)
• Defective audio mini-jack, which started working intermittently relatively soon after the purchase
SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB II:
After about 2 years from the purchase, it became super slow (unusable slow!) and the screen went nuts, becoming so hard to perceive the touches that it was almost unusable. Interestingly, the same model bought by my brother x months later (I say “x” because I don’t remember the number now, but that’s a detail, the important concept is about to come in a second), started malfunctioning (same issues) exactly x months after mine! How can I not think of a ‘programmed death’?
In conclusion, Samsung products (even TOP ones) provided very disappointing results, far from what one would expect from a serious and professional manufacturer. In my opinion, Computers and IT products are not Samsung’s cup of tea and it should stick with making TVs (I guess? / hope?? At this point…)
Thank you.
PS: your reliable ‘PRO’ drive says goodbye

The design of the drive is very sleek and stylish. It boasts a smooth, polished, black exterior to house the powerful internals. You see what you expect out of an SSD: a lot of performance using a very small amount of space. I was a little bummed when I had to install it out of view as it was quite pleasant to look at.
Installation is simple just like any other SATA drive; plug it into your motherboard and power supply, and you'll be smooth sailing from there.
I'll discuss performance in terms of what's visibly noticeable, and following the conclusion, as aforementioned I will post benchmark results. From the moment I power on, to when I reach the login screen is only a span of about ten seconds or so (possibly slightly less); this is honestly a very quick process. If I didn't have a password lock, I would obviously boot into my system much quicker without having to input the keystrokes for the password. After I log in, I am instantly able to begin opening programs, and they load quickly. Anything from Firefox or Chrome, my large Steam library, or large movie files. I have not attempted to utilize any hungry video/photo editing programs, but you can rest assured that your loading times with those would be low as well. Furthermore, I play very high performing games such as Skyrim with high-res texture mods, Battlefield 3, and Anno 2070 to name a few.
When considering this SSD for purchase, keep in mind the cost per GB when thinking about what size of SSD to get. Of course, if you just want to boot your OS quickly and some important high performance programs, you are likely better off with a smaller SSD with a larger HDD to store other files. In my case, I've installed the OS, all of my programs, and games to the SSD, while having a couple of other much larger HDDs to store the large movie files, music libraries, etc. Keep in mind, I don't install all of my games simultaneously to allow more room for other purposes. I purchased this SSD during a sale, thus granting me a better value per GB of space on this 256gb drive. If budgeting is important, considering waiting for a big sale as an option. Should money not be a concern, Samsung will be releasing high performance 1TB SSDs to the market for a much higher price point, but you will be able to get HDD storage sizes with the incredible speeds of an SSD.
In summary, purchasing this SSD will not disappoint you or your wallet. You get a nicely designed product with stellar performance at a great price point, especially during a good sale. If you're coming from primarily using HDDs, you will be blown away by the colossal difference in speeds. In most cases, price will be the major deciding factor between what size of SSD to purchase. With this particular drive size, it would behoove you to consider using it in tandem with a HDD of a much larger storage capacity.
Pros:
-Amazing, noticeable performance, especially if coming from HDD usage
-Stylish design
-Great value per GB, especially if purchased during a sale
Cons:
None encountered

Velocissimo. Per la configurazione del sistema operativo, dopo l'installazione dell'SSD, consiglio fortemente di farvi un giro per la rete (ad esempio al seguente link descrivo in dettaglio la mia esperienza: [...]
Acquistate tranquillamente.
Replacing Optical drive was quite complicated than my expectation. But after going through some Youtube videos i get the idea how to remove this. You have to remove some extra screws for removing optical drive.
If you are looking for a new life for your Macbook, just go with this. Performance is amazing. Start / Shutdown time is around 15 seconds (that is another case usually i shut down my Macbook in a month or more). Open multiple applications without any delay. The only thing you will miss is that coloured loading logo of Mac :-)
